- Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

- A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

We are going into a nazi like world, they can detain you and jail you without charges and now can even hold web site owners responsable for opinions. I hope it can be stopped but I doubt it.

-- Another side of this, as far as LAW is concerned (that is one sided and unfair and only favors the
few) is that, the POWER of internet is compelling and can move massive people into a certain will or
point of view where it tackles major concerns of a corrupt government and how poor their governance
in many branches and agencies particularly their very dirty deeds which they are trying to hide.

Thats why they need censorship in the first place eh?..

-- All nations in this world has a dark past and dirty deeds, BUT, some are so sensitive to hide it
to the eye of the public because they are so afraid to see how their bad and corrupt governance
pulled their countries dignity and pride downwards for the sake of their selfish intentions.

-- Too bad, we the people will have to suffer for their wrong doings.

Since this is political...that's why it's important to vote for

RON PAUL

He'll fight the nitwits on both sides of the political isle

It's a shame that such a great country which helped us so much during the war has become example of cenzorship, police brutality, beatings of protesters...

-- In addition to the things i said, look what happened to WIKILEAKS.

Now thats SOPA at its BEST! likes to mess with things which are already been exposed
and they are trying to deny it and stop it because it hurts them. Too late for them though...

Dirty deeds, Dirty past... Bad Karma for them.

Why does congress get involved in creating new bills to support civil lawsuits? If there is a copyright problem the damaged party should go to civil court just like any thing else. Why do music and movies studios get special laws just for them?

If SOPA passes, I'm joining Al-Kaida. Seriously, I mean, that's too much restriction. It would be 500 years-step back for technology, especially Tom's Hardware. I hope that it won't pass, Google, Microsoft and many other companies have already rejected it. I would vote against, but I'm not in the U.S.
I'm with you Tom's!

When I first heard about SOPA I thought it was some kind of joke, (in Spanish SOPA means SOUP)
But this is very serious and not funny at all.

This could simply destroy the internet as we know it, this shall not pass.
My vote against it is IN.

Done and Done Toms, I'm from canada but have a show on youtube that gets a couple thousand views a day. Ill Let my audience know in my next video and will also post a link to my website and facebook page.

This is exactly why things like 'positive rights' where the government is required to be in your life (as opposed to our current system of 'negative rights' which limits the government from your life) should be avoided at all costs. Laws like this stifle creativity in a post-modern culture where most art takes elements from other sources and blends them together to change their tone/meaning, force the original piece on it's proverbial head, or make a point about the subject. This would effect a wide range of media from AMVs to documentarys, to even home videos if a blocked piece of art or a sound track enters the frame.

For another example, how many people watch 'unboxing' videos as part of their product research before purchasing/suggesting a product to someone? Every product has copyrighted artwork on it. If a company wanted to they could pull your video review or take down the site that hosts it, imposing fines. In a would where online purchasing is the only way to go, I find such things to be invaluable in my decision-making process and would hate to see them relegated to only 'professional' sources which may gloss over flaws in the product.

I am all about protecting artists, and I find the piracy that goes on to be completely unethical and immoral (especially when music/movies are so cheap!), but this is not the way to do things. Our current laws where someone has to send a cease and desist notification, and allow time for such notification to be adhered to is just fine for protecting a content creator's rights (and if ignored the artist should be able to sue the pants off of the offenders!).

The internet is a wonderful place. Lets not let stupid people ruin it.

[citation][nom]bobusboy[/nom]ps: If the united states did this; couldn't websites move out of the united states to...Canada? or Mexico? or anywhere else?[/citation]

Exactly. I'm not necessarily a follower of the belief that all regulations are inherently evil, but when stupid people regulate, smart people improvise. That's why we need more ex-business owners in Congress and less career politicians.

Come on USA!

Tell those politicians they're just doing it wrong, with all your might. Vote and call them till they get it right.

If this thing is passed, the "life" in the internet will become miserable.

Cheers!

Is there anything someone in Canada can do to help? For once, I feel the cause is important enough for me to move my fat ass and actually do something instead of complaining! Then, I'll get back to SWTOR...
