I've got an SB Live! with Cambridge SoundWorks speakers. In the last two days I've had a problem when I went to adjust the volume using the roller switch that comes with the speakers and I'm hoping someone can help.

Both times I apparently had a static build up in my body and "shocked" the switch. The result both times was that the speakers quit working. Restarting did nothing, nor did turning the power to the speakers off and on. Ultimately, I deleted the card from Device Manager and restarted. Once Win98 autodetected, it worked fine.

Second time it happened was about the same.

Has anyone experienced this or know what's happening? The system is grounded and has a spike bar with fuse, but no line conditioning.

Spike bars, grounding, and line conditioners will only help you with electricity coming from that direction. You are sending current (via static electricity) directly to your sound card via the speakers. I would suggest some sort of grounding wire on your chair, or at least touch a metal part of your computer case before touching the speakers.

lol,

or just put on rubber gloves ... sweet and simple...

Hey man i dont know .. i just think i do !!
