Schedule a Task Problem

When I try to schedule a task everything goes fine until at the very
last when I hit Apply. A message comes up telling me:

"An error has occurred while attempting to set task account information.
The specific error is 0x80070005. Access is denied. You do not have
permission to perform requested operation."

I was already on the primary (Owner) account, so I went to one of the
MSN help pages and it says they are aware of the problem but they
recommend waiting until the next upgrade or goto Start > Run > enter
Gpedit.msn. which I did and got a message saying this is invalid command
(not exact wording).
Is anyone familiar with this problem and possibly aware of another
solution or work around?

Thanks for the speedy reply Ted, but that KB is the help page I was
referring to.... I just thought maybe there was another alternative to
what they suggested.... I'm very leery of dling the hotfix since they
recommend you wait.... and the run box entry suggestion doesn't work at
all....

(BTW, typo, it should have been .msc not .msn in the run box....)

Did you try the work around?

To work around this problem, add the "Access this computer from the network"
permission to the user account that will run the scheduled task. To do this
for the local computer policy, follow these steps:
1.Click Start, click Run, type Gpedit.msc, and then click OK.
2.Expand the following items in the Local Computer Policy list:
Computer Configuration
Windows Settings
Security Settings
Local Policies
3.Click User Rights Assignment.
4.Double-click Access this computer from the network, click Add User or
Group, click Browse, and then add the user name or the group name that you
want.
5.Click OK two times.
6.Click File, and then click Exit to quit the Group Policy editor.

Well I tried entering Gpedit.msc in the run box and this exact message
comes up:

Windows cannot find 'Gpedit.msc' Make sure you typed the name correctly,
and then try again. To search for a file, click
the Start button, and then click Search. OK

So that's what I did and nothing even close to such a file is found! Is
something really bad wrong here? Can it be fixed?

If you're running XP Home Edition, that snapin isn't part of it; it is only included in Pro.

Thanks, Tom. And I am running XP Home, SP2. I'm sorry, but I'm lost. It
just makes no sense to me at all. Why would they ever include it as part
of the Home OS if it's not available to be used???
Does that mean there's no way I can schedule a task? Anyone?

The point is, that GPEDIT has never been part of Home Edition, so it ever being "included" isn't the issue. If you are in need of scheduling a task, click Start/Help and Support, and enter Task Scheduler in the box and hit "enter". Follow the link or the knowledge base listings in the left column.
