SDRAM in a nutshell

Looking to buy some extra RAM. Have read on this forum that SDRAM and DRAM are the same just configured slightly differently. I don't need the jargon explaining what they are, I just want to know:
a) If I can have both running dual channel (2x4GB DDR4 DRAM with 1x8 DDR4 SDRAM, Yes the motherboard will support the 2 and 1 configuration)
and
b) Does SDRAM give the same performance as DRAM or should i just buy more DRAM.

There's tonnes of SDRAM on Newegg and was looking to share some with a mate. Here's an example: https://www.newegg.com/global/au/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820158188

Thanks in advance.
