Second internal drive system volume information is not accessible

Hello,
I installed a second internal hard drive in my Dell Dimensions 2400. When I try to open system volume information I get this error..
D:\System Volume Information is not accessible. Access is denied. What I want to do is to be able to use this drive just for pictures. If I take my flash drive and download my pictures on this drive, will I be able to access them?

Have you allocated the drive in control panel/administrative tools/computer management/storage?
