I have an MSI GS66 connected to a Dell P2210 1680x1050@60hz (HDMI to DVI) and Acer ET322QK 4K@30hz (Type-C to HDMI). Laptop screen is defective so it is disconnected.

Whenever I shutdown the laptop and turn it back on, the Acer says no signal. But when I close the laptop and then open and turn it on, the Acer works again. Also occasionally, when I do the latter action, the Acer turns on at 1980x1080 with no option to go back to 4K, and the only way to bring it back is to shutdown the laptop, repeating the same first problem.

Sounds like a Hdmi handshake issue. Can be the cable, can be the port itself or the monitor. But somewhere the recognition handshake signal is failing until you redo it with the laptop flip.
I believe that might be it. I am yet to buy a more proper cable, they are hard to come by where I come from. Thanks.
