Hi there guys,

I am looking to buy/build a gaming rig.

Here is what I am HOPING to get out of it and what I am dealing with now:

The only game I really play is Dota 2 but I would like to have the option to be able to run more graphically demanding games on steam.

Here is where things get a bit tricky: I have a 30 inch monitor running a desktop resolution of 2560x1600 but when I currently play Dota 2 I have to scale down the in-game resolution to 1280x1024 because my computer just can't run it at max (I still do, however, run the game on high/very high graphics).

With my new rig I'd like to be able to run Dota 2 at maximum resolution with very high graphics quality.

Hoping you guys might be able to suggest a build out of the many that are already listed on these forums that will satisfy my requirements.

Budget: <$1000 CANADIAN (our dollar is in the toilet right now, unfortunately)

Thanks in advance for your help, I'm doing my best to learn about system-building but it's a steep learning curve.

For starters, please have a look at this build I may buy, I have priced it out on Newegg.ca and Canada computers (I priced it out on Canada computers because I can pick it up in store and don't have to pay shipping).

I have 2 questions about this build.

1. Will it be able to flawlessly handle what I'm looking for?

2. Are the small differences between the one I built on Canada Computers and Newegg (based on part availability) noticeable? I.e. is it worth getting from one of these retailers over the other or are the builds identical enough that it doesn't matter.

Most of it is equivalent enough, except for the power supply and GPU. The XFX power supply is a lot better than the Thermaltake one (from what I've read it's built by Seasonic). I'd give the ASUS GPU a slight advantage over the Powercolor one based on a slightly better cooler, but it's not a huge deal. Definitely do not buy the Thermaltake power supply.

In the future you might want to consider upgrading to an SSD, but within the confines of your budget it's basically not possible without losing significant gaming performance. The i5 and Radeon 390 combination is a pretty good bet in your budget.

Thanks for the response and the PMs Quixit.

I am trying to get all of these parts in-store today from Canada computers. Here is the build I'm going with:

Canada Computers Build:

SilverStone Precision Series PS08B SST-PS08B (Black) mATX/Mini-ITX Tower Case 54.99

G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 DRAM 2400MHz C15 Memory Kit (F4-2400C15D-8GRR) $59.99

Gigabyte Motherboard GA-H110M-A Core i7/i5/i3 H110 SATA PCI Express Micro-ATX Retail 95.85

Intel Core i5-6500 Quad-Core Processor | Socket LGA1151, 3.2Ghz, 6MB L3 Cache, 14nm | (Retail Boxed) Gen6 (BX80662I56500) $288.00

ASUS Strix Radeon R9 390 8GB GDDR5 (STRIX-R9390-DC3OC-8GD5-GAMING) | 1050 MHz Clock, 6000 MHz Memory | PCI-Express 3.0, 2x DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort $489.00

SEAGATE OEM 1TB BARRACUDA 6GB/S SATA 7200RPM 64MB 3.5IN 2YR 73.03

EVGA SuperNOVA 550 GS 550W 80Plus Gold Certified Fully Modular Power Supply Intel 4th Gen CPU Ready $109.99

Problem is: the Hard drive and motherboard are only available for order through their warehouse and I won't be able to get it today. Can you guys suggest any alternatives to these parts within the same price range that state on the canada computers website (http://www.canadacomputers.com/) that they are in stock in-store?

Thank guys!
