Service Pack 2 for WinXP Tablet Edition

Hi All,

I would like to start by saying that I have already asked these
questions in Clarion and WindowsXP Tablet Edition news groups. No
one has even seen the problems before that I am reporting.

I purchased a Averatec C3500 Convertible running WindowsXP Tablet
Edition Service Pack 1.

I installed a bunch of database that were written in Clarion for
Windows. They all seemed to work fine. I then noticed that I was
running Service Pack 1 rather than 2. I backed up the drive then
installed Service Pack 2. There were no errors with the install.

I then tried to run one of my databases. Everything was fine until I
exited the database. When I did, I got an error saying that the
program had tried to access memory at ????:####. The memory location
listed is different every time. I tried a couple of my other
databases written in Clarion 2.003, 4b & 5.5ee. They all report the
same error on exit. These database are literally running on 1,000's
of of my client's computers with no problem. I have both XP home and
Pro boxes, and I can not duplicate the error on either.

The other problem is that after installing OneNote, whenever I boot
the machine a Windows Installer window opens and closes 5 times very
quickly. This also happens at random times when opening
applications. I have looked at the event logs, and it does not show
the Windows Installer activity. I have un-installed OneNote and the
problem is still there.

Neither of these problems are critical. They are both annoyances and
I hate to think that my computer is doing something I don't want it
to do? If you have any ideas, please let me know.

Hi,

I would speculate that on the first problem, you are running up against DEP.
The Clarion software is trying to access a protected memory location, and
the software DEP included in SP2 isn't allowing it. Clarion needs to fix
this, as their software is not running within the design parameters for SP2.

Not sure about problem number 2, have you tried clearing both the system and
user-defined \temp folders?

Hi Rick,

When I tried reloading the system during the weekend, I did just
load Service Pack 2 and one of the Clarion applications.

I am pretty sure that it is a problem with MY install of WinXPte. I
think my next step is to put a couple of the applications on to a
thumb drive and take it to CompUSA and try it on one of their
Averatec C3500 that come pre-loaded with SP2.
