hi good day,

This is the error I am getting when I try to install windows 2003 on a IBM eserver xseries 206 :

Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program. Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3.

It contains 2 SCSI drives in a Raid configuration. I am looking for the drivers to install in a floppy so that it could read from there but i had no luck as yet.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks.

Didn't the eserver come with RAID drivers included? If not, I suggest you look through the software page of your server model at IBM's website.

I think the OP's situation came when he / she tried to install Win 2003 on an IBM server machine that was equipped with 2 SCSI drives in a RAID array. Windows (and this includes the Install disk) does not know how to use SCSI devices or RAID arrays, and requires the addition to it (installation) of drivers that provide this communication ability. Windows Install has had a way to do this for a long time. Early in the Install process there is a screen that asks whether you need to install additional drivers before proceeding, and you must press the F6 key to do that. Then you follow on-screen instructions to install one or more drivers, but they MUST be on a floppy disk - Win 2003 Install only knows how to deal with that device for driver installation. Once your first driver is installed it comes back to the same screen to give you an opportunity to install more. You keep on until you have installed ALL the required drivers, then tell it to proceed. In this way this particular installation of Win 2003 will include those drivers as permanent parts of itself and WILL be able to use those devices as boot devices.

Obviously, such a process requires two things in preparation. One is you need a functioning floppy disk drive installed in the computer, even if only temporarily for the installation process. The other is you need a floppy disk containing the drivers ready to use. The manuals for your machine or motherboard normally will explain fully where the drivers (in OP's case, for SCSI and RAID) you need are, and how to get them onto a floppy disk for installation. Sometimes it's as simple as finding correct files in a certain place, either on a CD that came with your machine or on a website, and copying them to the floppy disk. Sometimes, instead, it is a utility file that you run and it will write all you need to the floppy disk. Either way, you need to use an already-working computer with a floppy drive in it to make this disk before you start the Win 2003 installation on the new machine.

Some recent versions of Windows have Install routines that can use removable media other than floppy disks - for example, CD's or USB "drives" that the machine BIUS can use just like a floppy drive - but Win XP and, I think, Win 2003 did not have that.

Thank you so much for the response, but my problem is hard disk is not detected in the BIOS.I want to build a IBM X365 Server ,so when doing this...I got an error tht Hard disk is not detected in the BIOS.plz help me out

[quotemsg=1908923,7,1137484]I had the same problem , if you still have it contact me here..Thanks Jeff[/quotemsg]

Hi 3151Jeff, I also have an IBM xseries 206 which I cannot get to build. I have 3 scsi 320 drives which I am able to configure using the config utility (Ctrl + A) no problem. I have them configured as a mirror and a spare drive. These are all recognised in the bios can also use the IBM serve raid cd to configure them also.

Once loading the win2003 server cd I choose the F6 option to load the drivers that I have downloaded from the IBM Website for the Adaptec AIC 7901 card, I choose the 32bit 2003/XP drivers and after a couple of seconds it says they have loaded. Then just before I get to install OS I get the message "setup could not find any Hard disks ........." etc

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

John

I found the problem in a setting for raid type or single drive selection in the bios. I was working on a dell and the the setting area did not jump out and bite me but it was in the hdd area in the bios.
Good luck
