hello again

just bought a secondhand 6700xt off a marketplace

i think i dont have enough psu to be able to use this with full power

im thinking about undervolting it, how am i supposed to do that properly

im using this specs
i5 12400f stock fan
sapphire nitro+ 6700xt 12gb
16gb 3200mhz ram
1tb Hdd
500gb ssd
super flower 550w bronze king psu

PSU requirements are mostly to cover the manufacturer's butt in case the user has a lower quality PSU or has a computer loaded to the gills with stuff.

My card's manufacturer says I need 700W. Last I did a power measurement reading using a Kill-A-Watt, it was pulling around ~300W from the wall at most. Considering I have a 80PLUS Gold PSU, the computer was really drawing about ~270W.

Most of the computers I built have never exceeded 400W from the wall.

i see, thats a very helpful reply
i guess its fine then

thanks

Well, according to the TechPowerUp GPU Database, the recommended PSU for the RX 6700 XT is 550W so you should be just fine as SuperFlower makes some great PSUs. In fact, my EVGA 1000 G2 Supernova is a SuperFlower PSU and it's an incredible piece of electrical engineering.

Having said that, it's never a bad thing to undervolt if you can because more often than not, the loss of performance (if there is any) is exceeded by the power and heat savings by an order of magnitude.

One nice thing is that it's incredibly easy to undervolt a Radeon card because you can do it with the Adrenalin Driver Package. It takes a little time but it will undervolt your card little by little until it encounters instability at which time it takes a step back and keeps it there. It's all automatic and you just have to select it with a click of the mouse.

There's a fantastic YouTube channel called Ancient Gameplays hosted by a really cool guy in Portugal named Fabio (yes, I laughed too when I first heard it). He specialises in Radeon Graphics. He's got a video guide specifically for undervolting and overclocking the RX 6700 XT:

I will add though that undervolting may be worth pursuing anyway if you want to lower the overall power consumption of the video card, lower how much the cooling has to work, or be able to push clock speeds further.

When I undervolted one of my video cards, its power consumption drop from 200-220W to 160-180W, I was able to keep a lower speed fan profile without raising temperatures too much (it usually averaged around 60-70C), and I saw almost no practical performance loss in the games I played.
