i have an i5 9600k and i want to upgrade it to i9 9900k is it worth the £300 to upgrade it ?
PC Specs:
  • MPG Z390 Gaming pro carbon
  • corsair TX850M 80+ gold PSU
  • intel i5-9600k
  • Palit 3080 ti GamingPro 12GB
  • 32 GB ram 3200mhz
  • Crucial Mx500 2Tb SSD

Solution
Worth is something only YOU can determine.

From your current parts, I speculate that gaming is most important to you.
Some games are graphics limited like fast action shooters.
Others are cpu core speed limited like strategy, sims, and mmo.
Multiplayer tends to like many threads.

Is your 9600K overclocked?
What is the make/model of your case and fan arrangement?
What is the make/model of your cpu cooler?

Most games will not effectively use more than the 6 threads that you now have.
Upgrading to a 9900K would gain you some threads and single thread performance which is always good.
If you are multitasking while gaming, then definitely upgrade to the 9900K.
You can recoup some of the cost from selling the 9600K.

If you play...

Personally I wouldn't unless you actually need the extra cores. If all your doing is gaming the just roll with it

Your setup would allow for an easy upgrade to the new cpu without needing to improve anything else however I wouldn't say it's a huge upgrade as see here: Comparison , it could also depend if your CPU is a few years old and is slowing down. But you shouldn't be bottlenecking with your current setup

Lastly, if you have the budget, go ahead and upgrade.
If you do not, you will forever be second guessing yourself.

1080p each for the monitors and 2k for the vr headset
At 1080p 60Hz/90Hz the 3080Ti is massive overkill and a 9600k should have no problem in 90+ FPS in most games.

However for VR you really need the highest FPS possible for a good experience and that is where a stronger cpu should really benefit. How much will depend on each game but I would expect a 9900k to show good improvements assuming it is well cooled.

Nowadays, hyperthreading is a must have. Even on release, 9600k was already maxed out in some titles. Not really much better than a quad in some aspects and dare say would have more confidence in similarly classed 4/8 thread cpu (7700k) mainly because the primary core, the core that dictates workload for the rest, has two workers minimising instruction latency. 9900k would be nice if can cool it properly.

Otherwise for 300$

Can run xmp on b560 boards now. Only thing is m2_1 slot is unusable with 10th gen. Could sell z390 + 9600k and opt for 11400f and something else.

Note I am a computer game development student in uni and when making games it sends my cpu to 100% and gpu to 60% most of the time because I am demanding a lot from my pc.
I have an arctic freezer 34 eSports. CPU fan
Do you think would it be better to upgrade to 9900k or overclock my 9600k or get a whole different cpu and motherboard.
also I would say my budget is roughly £600
have yall got any suggestions?

If you already have a decent Z390 motherboard, I think it's a good upgrade, especially if you can find a 9900K for a good price. The 9900K is a beast. As new games come out it's inevitable that some of them will utilize more cores/threads. Take BF5 (now an old game, lol) as an example. With my 9600K and my 2060 Super, on 64 player maps, the game just wasn't running smooth. The 9900K fixed this issue.
