So while not really anything new, since I got the Samsung 960 Evo, I took the Corsair XT out of the Purple Cobra and bought an external enclosure for it:

Jimmy I'm so jealous of that, you are seriously lucky. There isn't a 1080 Strix on this planet that isn't $200 over the mark right now. I currently have an MSI Gaming 1080. If that card were to come in stock at reasonable prices, would you guys say I should return the MSI Gaming and get the Strix?

Oh I know the GPU shortage is getting ridiculous. I went to Micro Center yesterday and they were completely cleaned out of GPUs. I really want to get a 1070TI and I want the Asus ROG model but have had no luck finding one. :fou:

In a funny turn of events, I got a 1080 Ti for $725 new. You read that right, $725. You bet I cancelled that 1080 I had ordered as soon as I saw that Strix. Also my new S2417DG monitor came in as well. I begin building soon!

Good grief...
My RX 580 8GB, bought for $250 in late Nov, is selling for $580 used on Amazon, $690 new.

I'd sell it, but then have nothing to replace it with.
Everything in the $300-$400 range is Out Of Stock.

You should see what the EVGA GTX 1080 FTW2 is going for now. LOL

Not selling mine.

Did some upgrading to my PC over Christmas. Got a Corsair H100i v2 to replace my H60, a few Corsair SP120 LED's, delidded my i7-5775C, replaced the crap TIM under the lid with Coollabratory Ultra (liquid metal for those that don't know) and was able to overclock it from 4.2GHz to 4.4GHZ so i'm really happy how it all turned out.

It was definitely a fun learning experience delidding for the first time, plus temps are exactly the same as they were at 4.2GHz before the delid with the H60 (hottest core maxing at 71C, rest stay in the mid 60's after at least 8 hours in prime95 small fft's)

I should also probably add 4.2GHz was at 1.235v and 4.4GHz is at 1.37v (yes I know the voltage spike is pretty big but I don't really care at the same time lol)

Never been truer than today. And like the Gold Rush of the past, so too will this one end.

On Christmas Eve my parents took me to microcenter to get my pc parts. All I needed was the computer case and I put together my first pc after it came. https://m.imgur.com/gallery/g4uSE i was living in a hotel up until a week ago because I was put out of my house from flood damage from hurricane Harvey. I’m back in and I finally got around to showing off my build. It’s rocking a 7700k, gigabyt gtx 1080 G1 gaming 8GB, 16 gb of 3000mhz tridentZ RAM, a 2 tb seagate Hard drive, a 256GB Samsung 960 evo SSD, the coolermaster hyper 212 evo cooler, a gigabyte Z270x ULTRA-gaming mobo, in the phanteks p400s case, running on windows 10. I have the Logitech g502 mouse and the gskill km780 rgb keybord. I’m 13 so from now on my setup won’t be getting upgrades too often. we aren’t rich even though we spend money like we think we are. My build is clearly black and green themed. Hope you guys like it!

Looks good! Glad you're back home after the storm. Last year was ridiculous.

You HAVE to upgrade that tiny monitor lol. You're wasting that system at lower than 1440p. ;)

Awesome system dude. Like anort3 mentioned, I can't imagine all that potential being capped by a tiny, what, 17 inch monitor? I understand if finances are the reason, in that case, it's still better than no monitor xD. Anyways that's most impressive. What's that little brick on the left of your monitor? Have temps and noise been low in that P400s?

My temps have been around 75 when gaming and it’s a little loud. I know that the 212 evo is probably not enough for cooling the 7700k but yea. The little cube is a slime from Minecraft that I had in a box so it just matches the theme. I’ll be accepting donations for a monitor

Looks like a portable battery to me.

Seriously if that monitor is as small as it looks and only 1440 x 900 or 1280 x 720 or something you're completely wasting that GTX 1080. At those low resolutions you'd be able to max every game with a 1050 Ti or 1060. You need 1080p 144Hz or 1440p to justify a GTX 1080.

Lol sounds a lot like me, I wanted to get a 1080 ti but it would be wasted on my 1080p 60hz monitor, so I guess I'll keep my 290X until either the 1080 ti prices come back to normal, or AMD really pulls something out their butt next gen. Yes, I do plan on getting a 1440P monitor but that's after a GPU upgrade, the 290X handles everything I throw at it at 1080P but I know that card will show its age when you step up to 1440P (I've seen the benchmarks lol, even with it only having 4GB of VRAM its not far from the 390X with its 8GB).

Speaking from experience, don't bank on 1080 Ti prices coming down any time soon, at least not to stagnate. Only reason I got mine for $725 (Strix too!) is because I had scripts running to alert me to price changes on top of the standard text/email alerts. Matter of fact I spent a few weeks with the 1080 Ti page open on Amazon/Newegg/B&H until they restocked. That's your only hope of a low price. I also went 1440p/144hz/GSync to match my card and give me a good future. I expect to keep the monitor for at least 5 years.

Bought 2x Bitfenix Spectre Pro LED 140mm (green) fans for my AMD build. Watt-meter and 100% pure isopropyl alcohol are for PC related tasks.
(AMD build is on the background.)

140mm Bitfenix fans replaced the 120mm Akasa fans out that i had as top exhausts.

Christmas
And for Christmas, my wife got me a nice gadget while i got her a cute bundle of joy. There were other Christmas presents between us too but those aren't PC related, so, i won't post those.
