No pics, but I just went with a pure eye-candy upgrade . . . a GTX 1080 FTW with three Samsung 32" monitors in a 5760x1080 panoramic setup. I now feel blind when looking at a single monitor setup.

i was thinking of getting an m5 z270 msi motherboard although i'm not sure if you can overclock your cpu with it or just the RAM

_id1483436020_343178_1.jpg

also one of these , a deepcool 360 liquid cooler , closed loop

intro_small.jpg

all because i don't have enough money to upgrade to kaby lake , of course my other option is to buy a kaby lake i7 instead of those two and use it on my z170 mainboard ..

Every Z-series MoBo offers CPU OC.

With Z170 chipset, you may need to update your BIOS prior to upgrading CPU to Kaby Lake family.
Just check the BIOS version you have and confirm from MoBo manufacturers site if your version of the BIOS supports 7th gen CPUs or not. If it doesn't, update your BIOS to the version that supports 7th gen CPUs.
Note: If BIOS update process gets interrupted, you can brick your MoBo.

Thanks for your reply ,

what is the difference then between z270 and z270-x , a , k , i and etc. ?! i ask cause when i googled about msi 's gaming m5 it didn't mention much cpu overclocking and for some reason it was all about the RAM ..

i have an updated z170 motherboard and i can use kaby lake but i actually purchased the z270 mb and i'm planning to use my old skylake on it ! cause for now i don't really have the money to buy the kaby lake cpu too ..

I actually completed my purchase , with a 240 gb plextor ssd too , this is all i bought :

Radeon R9 390X 8GB (Gigabyte G1 Gaming). Hot ah heck but got it for $249 AUD (~$195 USD) on clearance at a local store brand new. Don't know if there is a Price/Performance calculator but if there is then this is off the radar :D smashes everything at 1080p 60 FPS High/Ultra and much better suit to my 6700K then my old GTX 760. Using VSR i upscale most my games to 1440p/4K since it can usually handle it really well. If i had a bigger/better PSU at the time i probably would have grabbed 2 of em and be laughing right now but either way very happy with this card. Got a nice 1125 Core / 1700 Memory OC on it too with temps usually hovering around 75-80 under full load.

Those suffixes behind Z270 are added by MoBo manufacturers to distinguish different MoBos in their lineup. The difference will vary depending on the spec of the actual MoBo by manufacturer.

Here's the comparison of Intel 200 series chipset,

and 100 series as well,

Check the "highlight differences" box for better understanding.

I'll let Blackbird do what he wants with this thread and this is a place to show off your system not to ask basic knowledge questions but why in the world would you 'upgrade' from Z170 and Skylake to Z270 and Kaby Lake? There's literally no IPC difference.

i guess i would call myself a PC enthusiast , or something similar , anyway my gigabyte motherboard is pretty crappy and i was always looking for a replacement , so is my liquid cooler this is what i have :

i thought with my cosmos II case i could mount something better like that cooler above

i just don't know if with three fans there are enough fan pins on the mainboard and whether the cords can reach down to the pins or if i have to look somewhere for extension cords

Least your new video card beats most of the gtx 900 series but why didn't you aim for radeon 480x

The price haha. I was going to upgrade my CPU/Motherboard/RAM first from my FX 6300, ASRock 970 Extreme4 and 8GB DDR3 1600 which went to a i7-6700K, ASRock Fatality Z170 and 16GB DRR4 3200 and do the GPU later in the year was looking at the RX 480 after what reviews have been saying about the excellent price for 1080p but i saw the 390X on clearance for so low as i stated, a RX 480 is just over $100 more here and the 390X outperforms it slightly, it beats the GTX 980 too in most games now since the good patching and updates lately. I wouldn't use GPUBoss it's a bias and unreliable site. HWBench is a better version of it and UserBenchmark is best for comparing relative performance in my opinion. http://hwbench.com/vgas/geforce-gtx-980-vs-radeon-r9-390x
http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-RX-480-vs-AMD-R9-390X/3634vs3497

Overall it came down to the insane price on clearance and it is more than enough for my 1080p High/Ultra. :D

The 290X/390X ( same card just rebranded ) never competed with a GTX 980 anywhere except in synthetics and a few AMD titles.

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1746?vs=1716

The 290X/390X was more of a GTX 970 competitor offering slightly better performance at the expense of double the power draw and more heat.

Also especially with AMD, newer isn't necessarily better.

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1746?vs=1748

The RX 480 is more efficient. Not faster.

None of those sites that use synthetics are worth using.

I wouldn't be to quick to shut down other sites as non valid, I don't think a robot did those tests and people actually do test them enough.
Companys do send out products for testing and free to keep before releasing to the public.

:/

@CRO5513Y
The link you showed me seems like both cards neck and neck but long as your happy with your card have fun with it.
I just don't like ATI's control panel software they have been unable to keep stable and having constant problems even after amd bought them out.

I have no idea what you're trying to say. I'm telling you to use real benchmarks not synthetics like gpuboss and cpuboss ( useless ) and sites like HWbench ( better than useless but still lacking ) that just strings numbers together. Where is the methodology? Base systems are identical? Testing conditions and game patches the same? You never know.

I'm well aware of how parts are tested, hence my recommendation to use quality reviews.

The AMD driver thing is a myth. Nvidia has just as many if not more bad drivers in the last 10 years. I can remember 3 specifically that had the potential to damage cards.

Scores are a little low due to Reference RX 480, but the physics scores are great. Thanks to XFR with water cooling and the VRM cooling fan and the VRMs set to extreme in the BIOS, system OCs itself to 4.1ghz no problem.

@1440p even the 390 (non-X) is closer to the GTX 980 than the GTX 970; Jarred Walton included it in his 15 game average comparison during his GTX 1070 review http://www.pcgamer.com/the-geforce-gtx-1070-review/ and 16 game average in his GTX 1060 review http://www.pcgamer.com/geforce-gtx-1060-review/. Over at hardware canucks @1440p the lowest performing 390X in their 390X STRIX OC review is actually a hair ahead of the stock GTX 980 in the overall average; 50.53 FPS to 50.26 FPS http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/71044-asus-r9-390x-strix-oc-review-4.html.

Very nice!

Yep, an overclocked 390X is very competitive with a stock 980. It uses almost 150 watts more power and runs 20c hotter too. The problem is the 980 also overclocks ( 25% or better ). ;) The superior memory bandwidth made the GCN AMD cards better at higher resolutions. At 1080p the 390X loses handily.

I should also say I'm not being critical of the above user getting a 390X for less than $200, on the contrary that's a great deal. I'm only criticizing the use of purely synthetic 'comparison' sites that so may throw around on here.
