jwjespersen,
Nice DIY ITX case! Can you share a link to your album by editing it into your original post? It'd help our reader base see more of your build. On another note, per the thread's rules, I've sliced one of your images from the post since it didn't give a sense of scale to the case/build.

Is that glass or tempered glass on the sides? Make sure the edges are sanded down properly otherwise you'll slice your fingers getting to components.

Thanks Lutfij! I edited a link in, not many other pics but a few anyway. The glass is the common annealed type and is finger cut proof on all sides! I would've done tempered, but I don't think it's possible to drill through it.

Hey brodholm,
It's nice to finally see your work of art on the forums ;) Congratulations on being featured on MDPC :D

That's some amazing modding you've done there. Mind sharing a list of all the hardware you've used on that build? It might be a little too much for the newcomer but I'm sure an enthusiastic member would want to follow in your footsteps and plan ahead accordingly ;) Yes I know it's listed in your gallery, but em, it'd be nice eye candy on this thread.

Thanks! Did everything myself except the anodizing. But all the cnc-milling, design, cad, cam, sleeving etc. Basically everything you can see except the computer components (cpu, gpu etc) are custom designed and made by me.

Ill share a picture! Quite old hardware as of now but it is still running fine after about a year of 8h+ each day uptime!

'Work of Art' and 'eye candy' fall somewhat short of descriptive reality. It's pc's like that that could launch color schemes for the next 10 years, even after having been previously beaten to death.

Wayne and Garth said it best, "We're not worthy..."

I'm a sucker for custom made distro blocks for watercooling projects.

Its on my to-do list...would be excellent to do a 'case' made from distribution blocks with design patterns having some sort of meaning or artistic design, and likely, 2-3 different loops w/coolant colors.

Second build that I'm currently playing with. Decided to try out the LCD case mod with a Tower 900 case. I tried the monitor LCD panel like I've seen in the videos but got bored and ended up trying out a TV LCD panel and i think it's a a lot better but that can differ with age and model etc.

This is my HTPC. It sits front and center on my entertainment center, so I wanted something with a little more "flair" than a plain black box.
Started out with a Crosley D-25 radio, circa 1951-ish (7"H x 13"W x 6"D). Replaced the AC clock motor with a continuous sweep battery unit. Clock hands needed to be replaced and modified to fit. The clock is edge-lit via modified LEDs. Tuner dial functionality is still intact. Volume knob is a momentary spring return rotary switch which operates as the power button (clockwise turn) and reset (counterclockwise). The switch had to be heavily customized to fit and operate as intended. SSD and HDD are housed under/inside the mobo tray (rubber grommets for HDD mounting). There was an AC plug/port on the side which was removed and used for a "front" USB3.0 port. All original parts of the radio were preserved, and the radio could be re-assembled with very little signs of this case mod. Total time for case mod - approx. 60 hours.

tennis2,
Nicely done!

Actually, per thread rules, have 4 images of your mod. You can link up a build log in your post and add a link to your gallery to showcase your progression.

I love how you've literally taken an off the shelf antiquated household item and made it into a sleeper system :p Tip of the hat, kind sir, those hours don't say enough of the work you put into that system. Might I ask if that's the stock paint on the radio or did you apply a fresh coat of paint of choice?

My bad. It will be hard to communicate the whole thing with 4 pics, but I'll whittle it down.

The paint is original. Needed to be polished back to a good luster, but luckily there wasn't much more than a few minor hairline scratches down to the brown bakelite.

No worries. This is only a gallery to showcase the complete work. You should definitely have a build log linked in your post. I'm going bonkers just contemplating all the work you've put into it. In fact, I doubt it was 40 hours worth, nay, far more than that!

I would give you a standing ovation actually for learning of this project as we converse!

There. Pics removed. Link to full build log added.

Yeah, it was a lot more than 40hrs. The two pieces of sheet metal took 10 hours each. All the metal on the radio was hand-polished with Blue Magic Metal Polish on a sock to try to preserve the white paint in the lettering as best I could (a couple minor touch-ups reqd.) Countless hours on the internet and phone calls looking for that power switch were not included.

Loving the build log, man! On behalf of the modding community here on Tom'sHardware, thank you for the gem you've provided! :D

I still think it took more than 60 hours. The sort of care and dedication that went into that project isn't done over weekends but with the utmost of resolve! Bravo on your feat mate. I'll also hold onto that build log for my future work. You don't happen to know how to repair the volume control on a Cambridge Soundworks DTT2200, now, do you?

Volume knobs are just potentiometers.

First ry turning the volume knob up-down-up-down through about 180 degrees of sweep about a dozen times. And see if that fixes anything.

I started an even more challenging build (a fire extinguisher) which I probably have all of 60 hours into already. Unfortunately, the "client" (neighbor) fell through, so it looks like that one's going to be just a restoration.
