Not a bad idea and very easily done. I think there are already some yahoo
neopets groups too.

That's funny, since this was the only newgroup I *didn't* get to through
Yahoo! All my others are through there, this one is at
http://www.talkaboutgaming.com/group/alt.games.neopets/

Well, Yahoo is good too!

Oh, pants... Better go find a new one. This is the one recommended by
most of usenet IIRC. Well, the black-clad, Pratchett-reading parts of it
that I frequent at any rate 😉

Damn near every ISP has their own news service, and even if they
didn't is roughly $1 a month really *that* bad? Heck, Sally Struthers
can't even feed a starving child for that much. 😵

But consider this: yahoo and MSN is full of yahoo and MSN users.
*shudder*

Logistically even though I would gladly pay that if I had a credit card as
it is I have no way of paying it. So anything that isn't free won't work for
me.

Only 10 euros a year though. That is about £6.50 a year or 50p a month
or 12p a week or 1.8p a day.

What would that be in dollars?

A google says that 10 euros is around 13 dollars - so that would be just
over a dollar a month and 3.5 cents a day if my maths is correct.

Hardly bank breaking stuff for the most reliable news server I have
personally ever come across.

Indeed, it is really more of a token sum than a real payment.

Got a tip of a free news service called teranews from another one of
"my" newsgroups, where a whole lot also have been using
news.individual.net, just like myself. The addy is: http://www.teranews.com/

Haven't looked into it yet, but am going to. If for no other reason,
then to check if it works for someone outside the USA... :)

Answering myself. The free Teranews-thingy requires a $3.95 one time
setup fee, no monthly charges, max 50MB download per month. If you want
more, you pay more. I think I'll just switch to the news service
provided by my ISP...

How about Goggle and gmail? You can use google for free, and you can get a free
gmail account and have messages from your newsgroups delivered to your gmail
address.
I can send you an invitation to gmail if you'd like.

There's always Google Groups. Just checked that this group is on their
list as it isn't on my ISP's news list. Google's free, but IIRC there's
a bit of a delay before posts show up. Tried it a long time ago, can't
remember what else there was.

Ask you isp to add this group as in my experience they will happy
oblige.

I just sent a similar post before reading yours. I don't use Google groups
regularly, but I do believe it has improved its timeliness of posts.

Thanks. I have gmail. I will be able to get the group from my isp but I have
not been happy with their news server in the past.
