Silverstone Strider Essential Series

Hello everybody,

Can someone tell me what's the difference between the Strider Essential Series & the normal Strider Series?

I tried to compare the specifications but I got lost with all the technical jargons...

The two Essential Series models are 80+ certified, modular, and feature a single 12v rail.
The Strider Series are dual rail not all are 80+ ccertified and they don't have modular cables.

Are you sure they are modular...from the Silverstone site it doesn't mention that...so for a budget PC I should get the Essential series since its cheaper right?

The strider essentials are likely made by a new OEM and thats why they went from dual to single rails. There dont appear to be any significant upgrades from the basic striders at the same wattage but a 34A 12V rail on a 500W unit and a 25A rail on a 400W unit and calling them "class leading" on their site is just a lie.

Doesnt really matter which one you go with they will perform very similarly and are probably rated for identical outputs so go for the cheaper one of them if those are your only options.

Silverstone Strider Essentials ST50F-ES

-500w (80+ standard)
-modular
-safety features: OVP, OCP, UVP, SCP
-local price ~$58

Corsair CMPSU-VX550

-550w (80+ standard/bronze?)
-non modular
-safety features: OVP, OCP, OPP, UVP, SCP
-local price ~$90



for a PC with these specs:

amd phenom II x4 945 (3.0 Ghz)
asus m2n68-am se2
nvidia gts250 1GB
2 GB kingston ddr2 pc667
1 sata drive
1 dvd burner
20" LED monitor



Now, I understand the argument "dont gimp on PSU.. if you can spare the $30+ go for it.." etc
BUT, if the ST50F-ES is almost 60% of the price of the corsair, and is probably as reliable (both are 80+), should there be any reason telling me i should still get the corsair?

I would like to hear justification that the extra $30 i would have shelled out for getting the corsair is worth every penny as compared to just getting an ST50F-ES.

Seems like the ST50F-ES has been getting quite good reviews too...I guess for a budget build that's the best way to go...cheap & reliable...unless anyone can say different...

I read the review a few days back for someone else who asked if this PSU was good and for $58 i must say it is good. Plus Silverstone is not a bad brand at all.

In fact i've had my eye on the ST50F-ES for a long time and am planning to buy it this weekend and if someone does say different then I wouldnt get a corsair vx550...

Please...if anyone has had some bad experience with the Strider Essential Series can you please tell me cos I don't want to buy it & later have someone told me it blew up & fried their rig...

I have this Silverstone PSU and I'm very happy with it. It is very quiet and haven't had any problems to date (about 3 months).

I would imagine the ES model is an improvement over an already good unit.
