Would 2 7600GS's running in Sli be faster then a single 7600GT in general gaming applications?

Click here http://www.legitreviews.com/article/318/1/ and scroll down to see a good comparison of both cards.

It has been years since my last Sli system which I think was a Voodoo card back then, lol.

I am building a quite and energy efficient computer. I am going to be using either the AMD 3800 X2 35 watt CPU or one of the new Intel Conroe low wattage dual CPU's.

So, The 7600GS is only 32 watts with passivle cooling and fair performance. I was thinking that if I ran this Sli and only used the second card with my light to moderate gaming that could be a win/win sitution. I would be only using 32 watts on the ONE 7600GS for general desktop usage and occasionally run the 7600GS in Sli to give the extra gaming bump.

The Nvidia driver let's you set separate 2d (windows) and 3d (gaming) clockspeeds... why not get the 7900, and set the 2d clockspeeds to something ridiculous, like 200 Mhz or something.

One 7900GT is less energy than any SLi. Remember that SLi can generate slightly more than twice the wattage of one video card due to elecrtonic resistence, heat, and other factors. Don't SLi or CrossFire if you want to be energy efficeint, period. 7600GS is pretty light, but two of them will still take about the same wattage as a 7900GT would (it uses 64 Watts).

Newegg now has a EVGA 7600GS for $100 after rebate, with an active cooling system (fan) so, this is a pretty good bang for buck in SLI now. Sure, a 7900Gt is better, but price and availablity aren't.

Probably, but a single 7900 GT would be better and cheaper than two 7600 GS'.

SLI is prety useless unless you can afford the top-of-the-line cards.

I wouldnt as far as call it useless.
I dont know about you guys but here in Montreal i can get 2 7900GTs for less then a single x1900xt or 7900gtx ans it will perform better.

Not to mention those 7600GS's are allready overclocked also. 550/850 compared to stock 400/800.

According to the benchmarks below 2x7600GS's are able to hang with a 7900GT for a hundred bucks cheaper.
