so i currently have a 780ti and game at 1440p and i have the opertunity to get another 780ti for 300 or less. the question i have is is it worth upgrading to sli or should i wait a year and get a differnent graphics card.

my current specs
fx-8150 oced to 4.5
250gb ssd
evga acx 780ti
1tb black hdd
8gbs of 1866 ram

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it, the 780ti is still a very strong card for 1080p and 1440p gaming. Unless you start to suffer a massive dip in performance, then you would need to upgrade the video card. As it stands, upgrade to an Intel Processor, grab another 780ti to put in SLI and have fun for the next 3-5 years.

So 780ti is still worth it? and will it last me for a while. ive been looking at upgrading to the i7 4790k or the 5820k. i was looking at the 5820k cause i can get it cheapish at micro center here in denver. the cpu is 270 and the mobo will be 200 and 8gbs of ddr4 will be 100. but i can do that anytime. i just want to make sure that the sli of the 780 ti's is still a badass move.

A 780ti for under $300 is a good deal and I believe worth it, especially if I already had one to SLI, it has about the same performance as a GTX 970 which is around $330-$400. If you can get a 5820k for $270, that's a steal. It's a bit of overkill for gaming but it will last you a long time.

As a few games are staring to use over 3gb vram at max settings at even 1080p I'm not sure I would want to invest more money in a 3gb vram setup.

2x780ti's is a lot of gpu power and if your happy to turn down settings if you run out of vram then it might be worth considering but personally I would wait until 6gb cards start hitting the market

Nvidia though does has great texture compression, it's why the 780ti will actually outperform the 970 on Crysis 3 even though the game will use over 3gb of VRAM on the 970. It's also why a 2gb 960 and 4gb 960 show little to no difference in performance and image quality.

yeah i can get it for 300 or less. and yeah i have a evga acx one already. and the 5820k i figured was overkill but it was like for the price its not far off from jsut doing the 4790k and i get a extra 2 cores.

Thats one of my main concerns is the vram litmittaions and weither or not it would affect my gaming. i dont use any aa cause my monitor i never have problems but i wana game on ultra period with no aa

i wana game on ultra and i dont use aa but i cant find any new stuff on 780ti's since the quit making them not any new benchmarks. just wondering will they last for a few years and keep ultra up

You should be fine for a few years, 780ti SLI will keep up with new games at ultra settings. This is one of those situations where it's not so important how much VRAM you have, but rather, how you use it:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GTX_970_STRIX_OC/12.html

The 780ti pulls ahead in nearly every game in that benchmark review even at higher resolutions.

Cool i wish there were newer benchmarks and yeah i hope the sli would be able to max stuff out for years to come i would liek to wait till the 1000 or 1100 series so to say

would you think i would suffer a massive dip in performance and i noticed under you name it says cpu expert whats that about? and also if thats so do you think i would see a preformance boost upgrading my cpu?

Let me clarify, I have a 780 with a good OC. Advanced Warefare @ 1080p I have to turn down a handful of settings as I go over my 3gb VRAM and get awful stuttering although I have the GPU power ti run higher settings.

From reading reviews GTA5 and a handful of other games have similar requirements.
