Hi All,

So it looks like my current video card is borked. It's a XFX ATI 5850 Black Edition, but it's only running at x8 instead of full x16 speeds. I've done everything I can think of (different motherboard, different system, flashing BIOS on the card and my motherboards, cleaning the gold connectors carefully, blowing out any and all PCIE x16 slots with compressed air, yadda yadda yadda...) and after some extremely disappointing "customer service" from XFX (yeah, blaming my equipment or claiming that you don't NEED to run at full x16 speeds...while I payed EXTRA for performance so I demand full speed! And also not being able to guarantee I will get a equivalent card via RMA. I could get a 5830 or 6850. Neither lines up with what I currently own) I am deciding to go in a different route. Nvidia.

I have a Asus 990FX Sabertooth motherboard with the latest stable BIOS, a Corsair TX650W PSU, and a stopgap solution of a case (a Antec 300). So in theory I should be able to support a couple of 550 TI's in SLI. I am just wondering would I see a decent increase in performance or would I be hurting myself, performance wise, by going this route? Or would it just be better to run one single 560 Ti. I am on a budget of no more than $300 here and I would like to get some good performance.

I should mention I have a 21" 1440x900 monitor @ 75Hz and my CPU is a Phenom II x6 1055T. I play mostly steam games, but I do want to enjoy playing Arkham City when it comes out! And I play WoW and SCII.

Any help/advice is appreciated.

Solution
the ti in 550 is misleading

in that case, it's just a tag for marketing.

The 550 is not a gamer graphics card, get the 560ti (where ti does actually mean something)

and 550ti SLI performance is handsome
& 550ti is a gaming card: http://www.geforce.com/Hardware/GPUs/geforce-gtx-550ti
550ti SLI BENCHMARKING: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1EFqbJf4Bk

surely at that resolution a single GTX 560, 560ti (inc the upcoming new 448 core 560ti) or even a GTX 570 will fit in your budget and give you great performance?
starting with the lower of nvidia cards Ive mentioned: http://www.hwcompare.com/11031/geforce-gtx-560-vs-radeon-hd-5850/

GTX 570 coming in at 310 USD after mail in rebate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125384

Thanks. I should have mentioned that I am actually going to get charged shipping AND sales tax if I order through newegg, so anything I get will be through tigerdirect. MIR's have a way of "missing" me and I never see them, so I don't even take them into account. But I appreciate the info!
