Question Slow 8 minute boot up time

Dec 3, 2022

pc specs:
windows 10
amd ryzen 5 3600 cpu
8 gig ram
geforce nvidia gtx 1650 graphics card
ssd hd 512 gb(not sure on brand)
asustek prime b450m-a

bios version 2006- amd agesa combo-am4 1.0.0.4 date 11/13/2019

Problem: Pc takes 8 minutes to boot windows. It has slowly been taking longer and longer to boot in the past few months. I reformatted the hard drive, reinstalled windows with the same issue. I tried turning fast boot off in in windows. I tried unplugging all usb devices before booting up. I tried looking at the boot order in bios and it appears to have the ssd drive there. I tried booting ubuntu from a usb drive instead and it took 3 minutes to load.

How do I figure out what the problem is?

You might want to update the bios and also the chipset driver.

What does task manager/startup show for bios time?

Last Bios Time: 11.7 seconds

I updated the chipset driver, video card driver, ethernet driver and sound driver. Still same issue.

I am really worried to update the BIOS. With my luck the power might go out while I attempt it.

How full is this SSD? Having an SSD full will negatively impact its performance, especially lower end dramless models.

Run Crystal Disk Info and post the results of the SSD here

Additionally, how many items are in the startup tab of task manager? This also can slow down bootup significantly.

I formatted it 3 days ago, and it has 413 gigs free.
Before I installed anything, I tested the boot time and it still took 8 minutes.

check the power supply, it provides a signal to the motherboard that indicates the power is ok.
If this signal is not set then the signal will prevent the cpu from booting until the signal is set.
Guess would be a bad capacitor in the power supply circuit.

you can also make a registry setting to make windows tell you what it is trying to do.
google "how to turn on verbose startup messages in windows"
and make the registry setting. maybe look here: Enable verbose startup, shutdown, logon, and logoff status messages in Windows Server 2003 - Windows Server | Microsoft Learn

also, some ssd with lots of usage will shrink in size to the point where there will not be proper free space. This can cause the drive firmware to lock up and go very slowly.
fix tends to be to delete excess files and make sure there is plenty of free space on the drive. Then boot into bios and let the system sit powered on but idle for a hour or two.

Fixed!! -- Thanks everyone for trying to help. Turns out it was corrupted windows installation files or bloatware. I reformatted again with a windows usb install stick and now it boots in 10 - 15 seconds. I didn't realize that my recovery partition was corrupted or had bloatware that was causing the issue.
