Slow harddisk?

For some reason my harddisk (Quantum Atlas3 on a asus P2B-LS (Adaptec aic7890)) seems to be unable to write/read data for more than once a second. The OS I use is Win2k. Anyone any ideas what may be causing this?

>>unable to write/read data for more than once a second.<<

***Hey I run Intel... but let's get real***

For example when playing moviefiles like .avi with a high bitrate, the disk "rattles" for about once a second. When the disk rattles, the movie playes normal, but when it isn't rattling (which it isn't for about 60% of the second)
the movie freezes but the sound plays.

I hope this makes any sense...

DId you try a Sandra benchmark on the disk? I tried it on my Maxtor 7200 rpm 30Gb which I suspected was slow. Lo and behold Sandra tests showed it had a seek time of 30ms instead of 9.5! Called Maxtor and they are shipping me another drive.

Benchmarked it with sandra, and it reports a accesstime of 9ms, nothing wrong with that i guess, but with sequential read it reports 11mb/s. Is that normal?

Other things he reports are :
Buffered read : 47mb/s
Random read : 4mb/s
Buffered write : 7mb/s
sequential write : 6mb/s
random write : 4089kb/s

Your drive stats seem ok. I would look elsewhere to solve your i/o problem.

The usual: irq conflicts, drivers, bios, ...
