Hi everyone, this is my first post.

anyways, I have a bit of a dilemma. I will be getting a new mobo/cpu this xmas. i've been looking at reviews and prices for a while now, and pretty much decided that the Asus A8V-Deluxe is the board for me.

my current setup is a P4 2.4, ASUS P4PE, 512M PC2700 DDR, Radeon 9500 PRO.

the dillema is that i want to start upgrading my system, but i don't have the money to do everything at once. so i'm thinking i'll get an A8V + AMD 3500+ (90nm) this xmas. as soon as possible (probably a month or so) i'll get 1G of PC3200 DDR of some nice low latency ram (cause i only have 1 stick and performance aint gonna be good). then i'll wait until fall until the new graphics boards show up and the SLI situation clears up and get a new SLI mobo with a new PCI-Ex vid card.

my question is whether this is a safe path??? i'm afraid that AMD might switch to another socket or start using DDR2, and i'll be stuck buying an inferior mobo to keep compatibility with old parts.

i use this system primarily for gaming and programming, and i do plan on doing some OCing with my system (hence the 90nm part). is this a good slow and safe upgrade path? any input would will be appreciated.

Safety is an illusion! The deadliest handguns all have "safeties". You could have a heart attack while riding in the safest vehicle in the world. You could be safe at first base only to have the next batter ground it right to second. In this day and age safe = boring. That said, I guess you picked the right motherboard.
