Told myself that now that I have a job, I'd snag a GTX 1080, or equivalent, on the conditions that I maintain this job until then, have wiggle room for money, and on the condition that I do well in school and keep up good health (lots of conditions).

Current GPU is a 970.

Main questions I have are:

1) Do we have a price estimate for the GTX 1080 yet?

2) Do we have any idea how it compares to the GTX 900 series? I know that it's supposed to have 4 stacks of HBM2 (compared to the FuryX's 4 stacks of HBM1), and since it's a whole new architecture it's supposed to have extra transistors and stuff, but is there anything solid on the performance difference? There's leaks regarding the fact there's 16GB and 32GB VRAM Cards coming out, but my assumption is that these would be specifically for Super Computers.

3) Do we know of any rumors or leaks as to when the GPU comes out specifically?

4) Would an i7-4790k CPU at stock speeds (4ghz quad-core) become a bottle-neck when used in conjunction with a high-end NVIDIA Pascal for gaming?

5) What resolution would you assume to be the "limit" for "ultra" next-gen gaming with a single high-end NVIDIA Pascal card for sufficient frame rates(GTX 1080 or equivalent specifically)?

Two good rumor websites to check out are:
http://videocardz.com/
http://wccftech.com/

Here's some Pascal news:

Nvidia gets first samples of GP100 from TSMC, begins internal tests
http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/anton-shilov/nvidia-receives-first-samples-of-gp100-chips-from-tsmc-begins-to-test-them/
I saw that TechFrag article. So Pascal versions of Titan X and 980, coming out in April and June respectively. The only question I want answered is: When is the 1080 Ti coming out?

google query: nvidia pascal
http://techfrag.com/2016/01/25/nvidia-2014-2017-gpu-roadmap-pascal-titan-gp100-to-debut-in-april-gtx-1080-in-june-and-volta-in-2017/

I don't know. I've never heard of Techfrag. If this was true, WCCFtech would be on it quicker than you'd imagine.

Personally i would wait until VCZ come up with something. Wccftech would just put anything they can think off as long as they can meet their everyday article quota. The article above mention april as tha launch of pascal based titan. Either they really have insider info or just make random speculation because that is around the time nvidia have their GTC for 2016. If nvidia really going to bring in their big gun from the get go.....then we might see big performance jump that we used to see in the past when jumping to one generation to another. Though GP100 might not be what most people expected it to be. I already heard that GP100 probably not going to be a big chip like nvidia previous Gx100 were.

That is if the biggest pascal will be another 600mm2 behemoth (the largest nvidia gpu in their whole history). Honestly it is hard to say how much faster the fastest pascal compared to 980ti. Remember nvidia ditch their FP64 stuff inside maxwell to gain more gaming performance. But they was supposed to add those stuff back with Pascal. And that's not counting the gpu design itself. Maxwell is not just another kepler with it's FP64 being remove. Why maxwell 128 SMM are more efficient than Kepler 192 SMX? When looking at all this it become much harder to predict how pascal going to end up.

My wallet REALLY hopes this is not true!
I paid $600 for a classified not even a year ago and not too long before that over $600 for a 780ti superclocked.
seems to me there is just no way to on a even keel with gpu's

yeah i made a mistake getting the 980 classified while already owning a 780ti superlclocked.
the classified was a real good deal and was hard to pass on though
I paid $450 with backplate in like new condition with original packaging.
I use it as my main GPU and my 780ti is in my other backup tower.
If i go pascal i got to sell at least the 780ti

Could Pascal be coming out sooner than expected? I noticed that just until recently (last few weeks) NewEgg listed the EVGA 980 Ti Classified for only $619.99 after a $20 mail-in rebate. That promotion has ended and now NewEgg has listed the FTW card for $609.99 after a $20 mail-in rebate. Is it possible that they are clearing out inventory of the Maxwell cards, because Pascal is going to release early?

EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti FTW
$609.99 after $20.00 rebate card

EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Classified
$619.99 after $20.00 rebate card

Perhaps they will. If I have a true belief, it's that Nvidia will beat AMD to the release date, even though all evidence points toward AMD releasing Polaris first. Nvidia is just being too quiet about it all, and they may unexpectedly release the cards. I can recall the 970 and 980 being very abruptly released.

Nvidia actually is ahead right now. So they don't need to throw buzz to the public creating hype. When nvidia was very late they also using hype to highlight that their product is coming (like posting picture of 480 running unigine heaven benchmark). With kepler nvidia also very quiet. They only make a bit of noise after amd launching all their line up except 7990. Amd delays 7990 most likely because they want nvidia to telease their dual gpu first. So even if they lose the single crown they can still adjust 7990 performance and get the dual crown for themselves. But when nvidia able to make 690 fit in 300w envelop AMD actually scrap the plan for 7990 temporarily and tells the public that they let partners the freedom to make their own dual gpu solution. Then only to 'resurrect' 7990 in 2013.

I have 2 980 Tis SC+ ACX 2.0+, and I can assure you that 1 doesn't "destroy" late 2015/2016 games at 4K. 1 is surely not enough for 60 FPS 4K gaming at decent settings. Please don't spread false information.

The "spreading of false information" happens any time someone makes a blanket statement without any regard for the numerous times their statement is false. For example, a statement like this:

"...1 is surely not enough for 60 FPS 4K gaming at decent settings"

Which we all know to be false information if we decide to apply it to any number of specific game scenarios, like this one for example.

Nic88 didn't articulate his statement properly however I think he meant that a Single 980 ti cannot play games like The Witcher 3 and far cry 4 on ultra settings with some AA enabled... lol

Decent is certainly vague...

That's why I was referring to the latest ("late 2015/2016") games at decent settings. With "decent" I meant close to max, with 1 or 2 settings lowered a notch.
Your example is not really appropriate, as the game is from 2014 and it's not being played at close to max settings.
I know, because this is the game I'm playing at the moment, and I get locked 60 FPS with 80% average GPU usage on both cards. This is at max settings, but I had to lower Ambient Occlusion to high, as I couldn't play at a locked 60 FPS with AO on ultra.

Hey guys. I know pascal is a fun topic to discuss for all of you. However, this thread has turned from a normal QNA into a fully grown discussion thread on pascal. Which is a form of hijacking a thread.

I've made a new discussion thread where you can talk about pascal ALL YOU WANT! http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2970299/discussion-nvidia-pascal.html

Please move all your conversations into the new pascal thread. Thank you!!
