Solid laptop but games arent smooth

Hi there,
first of all, I'll give you my specs :

ASUS M51S
Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 (2.4GHz)
3 GB DDR2 (667MHz)
GeForce 9500M GS (512 Mb)
HDD 250 GB (5400 rpm)
15.4" WXGA+ (1440x900)
OS : Windows Vista Home Premium

Latop is quite new (no dirt no dust). Windows are up-to-date, no viruses or any known threads to me. I've tried various Video card drivers (including actual ones)

Heres my problem :

Despite of getting solid FPS in newer games (40-50), I have one problem. Once my fan starts working (being loud, its when VGA's temp reaches 90 Celsius), FPS remains quite solid but games looks laggy, not being smooth. It may be best seen at racing games when car seems to by jumping from place to place ...

I've found one PARTICULAR solution :
Vertical synchronization works for SOME games

But there appears another problem, when frame rate cant handle 60, it wont drop as expected (lets say to 50) but it drops to 30.
So i see 30-60 framedrop show :/

If your laptop gets too hot, then the mobo kicks in an drops your frequencies to cool things down. This is especially an issue with the older nVIdia GPUs, because overheating permanently crippled them, so both BIOS updates and drivers updates both spun the fan more and dropped the performance when things got hot, but it applies to both CPUs and GPUs.

This is a common thing with laptops, the best thing to do is to put it on an active cooling platform (basically a stand with a full-time fan), it ensures that the laptop stays cool and never goes into it's lower-power mode.

yeah I managed it might be overheating, inc 90 C it happens ... as you said, laptop issue 🙁

Yeah I love to game on mine, but I always ensure it gets extra ventilation to make sure nothing gets too hot too quickly. I can go for hours playing Crysis, Fallout3/Oblivion no problem, but only with active cooling underneath to ensure everything stays nice and cool and doesn't spin up the tiny onboard fans by which time it's almost too late.
