Hey,

So my PC has been experiencing very odd crashes when under load, as soon as anything visual happens the whole GPU crashes and all sound stops.

It's hard to diagnose it, so i tried running my monitor off my integrated graphics, then running a game from the GPU (you can do this @ windows graphics settings). This crashed the game (CTD) and windows remained fine, after looking in the event log this was shown:

"Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding"

and the windows notification showed this:

"display driver crashed but successfully recovered" (it didn't recover without a reboot)

I then did the following:
  • Updated all drivers to latest (Issue remained)
  • Installed DDU, removed everything
  • Re-Installed drivers to latest (Issue remained)
  • Ran DDU again, removed everything
  • Installed earliest driver for my GPU (Issue remained)
After this point I figured it could be my PSU, (eventhough my system should have enough power) so i did the following to try and reduce that:
  • Installed MSI Afterburner
  • Underclocked my Card memory + clock by 400mhz
  • Set the power + temp to 70% (also tried 120%)
  • Set the fan speed to 100%
This crashed too, so I took a new GPU and installed all drivers which also crashed. So I ran it with my integrated graphics again, and this time the crash can't be recovered from and requires a reboot, but I guess this is just because the difference in cards. I couldn't find an event log this time either. There was a notification from windows though after I restarted and looked in the action center:

".exe was blocked from accessing your graphics hardware"

I'm out of ideas at this point and really need this PC for development work, I don't have any other spare parts as I thought the new GPU would fix it. Nothing appears to be overheating, since after the crash every part of the PC seems to be an ok temperature. I've also re-installed windows. Does anyone have any ideas?

Here's my specs:
  • Motherboard - MSI B250M Gaming Pro
  • CPU - Intel i7-7700k 4.3ghz
  • Ram - Corsair 8GB (DDR4, 2400HZ )
  • Power - Corsair TX850M
  • 1st Tested GPU - GIGABYTE GTX 1060 3GB (using DVI)
  • 2nd Tested GPU - PowerColor Radeon HD7950 (using DVI)
  • Storage - 250GB SSD + 500GB HDD
  • OS - Windows 10 64bit
Huge thanks for the help,
Harley

Solution
Solution - After days of attempting fixes, I downloaded the 'MSI Live' program designed for my motherboard, this downloaded an alternate (and apparently incorrect) driver for my integrated graphics. This made the second GPU work with and without the integrated graphics being enabled. I'm assuming the first GPU simply doesn't work.
