[SOLVED] Overclocking M11x R2 CPU

Greetings,

Before I begin I know there are many topics out and about regarding OC'ing the M11x R2 with BSOD issues. I do NOT get the blue screen of death, I get another issue that prevents me from OC'ing that I can't find much of any info on.

Whenever I enter my bios and change the overclocking from [disabled] to either of the 2 options made available to me, save and exit, my laptop begins to boot and then quits to the "Windows failed to load" screen in which I can either;

1) Begin the windows boot repair/troubleshooter (does work, ONLY if I reset bios to defaults - otherwise the troubleshooter doesn't even open, I go right back to the "Windows failed to load" options after some time with a black screen.)
2) Try again (doesn't work)

So as you see I am unable to change the OC'ing settings to anything other than default, or my M11x R2 simply will not boot... Any help is appreciated.

Specs:

Overclockable Intel Core i7 640UM (4M Cache, 2.266 GHz Max Turbo Frequency)
8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 800MHz
1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M
500GB SATAII 7,200RPM
Windows 7 Home Premium

Solved the issue after coincidentally finding the cause.

it seems Dell used the TrustedInstaller to hold ownership over the windows, program files and other various folders. After painstakingly recovering ownership and write/delete rights, rebooting the laptop and overclocking was successful.

On a side note, this file ownership issue also caused my control panel to close upon opening every time. This was solved with taking ownership back as well.

You need to inherit full control over your entire C drive. Right click, Properties, Security Tab.

I should note that I still have an unfixable issue wherein I am totally unable to install a number of windows updates. Quite irritating. I would wipe this drive and install a clean OS but alas, no disk drive.

How-to

You may need to do this for various folders if you can't get the sub-directories to inherit the change. Windows folders, most specifically.
