Can someone help me with this? I have a a7n8x deluxe with an xp 1600+ proc and 1Gig of PC3200 twinx from corsair. Yesterday, I wanted to reinstall my o/s and the headache began. It started crashing in the weirdest places with almost never the same message or blue screen twice. I didnt know what to do, so I took out some of the memory, loaded default values for the bios and disabled every on board component. Suddenly, it seemed to install without giving me trouble. But then, when I was done installing XP, it restarted and the screen stayed black. I of course tried it a couple more times, reset the bios with the battery/jumper move and tried it again, when suddenly something smelled very plasticky and burnt. I looked inside, but I can't find what it is. Now I need to figure out what to replace. How would I go about this? What could it be? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Well, I've never had this problem (knocks on wood), but I'd start with the power supply unit. Give it the smell test, and then look over the wires carefully.

If it isn't the psu, I'd take out the components one-by-one and, again, give 'em the smell test and look 'em over carefully.

Good Luck

Thank you for your responses. As it turns out, it was the graphic card. Hopefully putting a new one in, will get the system back to stable. I will also buy a new proc while I am at it.

Whats the best one for the a7n8x dx? XP 3000+ or 3200+?
Or another one?
Well, sudden change of topic.
Am I glad my mobo aint fried.

well, the 2500+ Mobile can be overclocked to 2.4GHZ with normal cooling and higher depending of cooling...far better than the 2.2GHz of the 3200+
