I bought this monutor last week. Total use time of less than 24 hours. Likely even less than that. I had to go away for work the past few days and when I returned I saw this.

It's almost like the pixels underneath the screen are scratched. There is no damage to the screen itself. What is this? Is it just defective? Have I damaged it somehow?

It's more prominent on greys, and less noticeable on solid colours.

make and model of the monitor?

try it with a different computer (or anything with a video output like a DVD player) and a different cable, if the problem still persists, or if you can see the problem on the splash screen when nothing is plugged in, it's a defect on the monitor

I don't see how you can cause this by just using it/leaving it in a room, if it's in the monitor it's just defective
