[citation][nom]theroguex[/nom]Awesome! So basically, the multi-million dollar settlement will come in........ and you'll all get $5 in the mail, while the lawyers walk away rich.WHY DO PEOPLE START CLASS-ACTION SUITS?[/citation]
Cause the company who did the stupid thing in the first place is the one who pays that large sum, yea the people who were hurt don't get much but the company loses a lot, and losing a lot of money is bad for companies. It is more of a set an example type thing, stops the company and others from doing the same thing later.

They need to be punished right???? That is the biggest load of bull that the lawers have been feeding the public for the last 20-30 years. I don't think companies should walk away scott free when they do something wrong, but this cash for punishment is sooooooo hipocritical it is rediculus. The Lawyers get up and talk about how an entire company stole money from people etc and then he/she walks away with more money than anyone had benefitted from in the first place. Who is the real crook. This country needs tort reform so bad, but it will never happen because all the politicians are lawyers as well.

If Sony loose the case, than what? This is for US.. What about Europe? What about local retailers. I'm working in big retail shop and i deal with unhappy customers, what if someone come to me and say he want me to return his money for the PS3 he bought 2 years ago? Than i must ask my managers, and I'm sure they will say NO. And considering the laws in my country we would be wrong to not compensate the unhappy customer because WE sold him the PS3.

[citation][nom]darthvidor[/nom]I hope Sony loses this case and forced to return Other OS support.[/citation]

True, but including linux/other OS on a closed platform was a mistake from the getgo by Sony. Guaranteed they'll be forced to flash it back in, then peeps will hack the hell out of it and create another nightmare for Sony when everyone who runs linux/other OS starts calling them, and drumming up another class action suit over personal info/virtual property being stolen from merely "using the PS3 as intended." And it'll be Sony's fault. Nevermind the peeps misusing the tools to begin with.

And yet I BET that in the EULA PS3 users have to agree to in order to use the console, there will be a section stating that Sony can add OR remove functionally without notifying users and that there is no recourse available if that happens.

What a simpering bunch of crybabies!

Wow, anyone with a keyboard can leave a comment here. EULA is not going to save Sony. I will be all for Sony flashing back the ROM so that other OS is supported, and I don't want a dime from them. It's a good console, let's stick to the original plan and get the feature back up and available. I could care less about all the rumors and garbage flying about. It is not about money for me.

[citation][nom]nastymuthafer[/nom]. @techguy. The CellBroadband Engine is not a GPU. GPU's are for great for graphic intensive situations, not mathematical calculations in the tera-flop range.[/citation]

That is what i said a pc cannot replace a ps3 in a cluster it just does not have the computational power needed the cell broadband engine can handle certain math much better and faster than a pc cpu.
Has there been any real proof though that the hack could be used for anything? has it been verified?.
I have seen loads of modded xbox360's in my repair shop not a single ps3 but then again only ps3 i see are ones that have trays that are jammed not ejecting the disks.

This one will loose. A company stands to loose money while people stand to gain. Not part of this century. If apple sued or some patent trolling company, theyd have a chance. this one just make too much sense, therefore the courts will go with what they know: Stupid.

As far as I know there is no acknowledgement, or proof from SONY of it being hacked. Although, I think it was said @COD hacks.net, or something similar, that claimed to have made an aimbot program, wall see-through hack, and some form of a enemy locator hack on COD modern warfare 1.

My limited scripting and C++ skills would lead me to believe that it would be impossible to hack it without a dev kit for the PS3. Even then, a majority of the security relates to some form of random key encryption I believe. I misread your original post about the GPU. The Cellbroadband engine really excels in simultaneous tera-flop calculations. There's an article where they broke a 128-bit encryption using 30 PS3's in a month (was awhile ago, 8-14 months ago)? May have to google it, as I'm not sure of the specifics of the article any longer. I have a link on my website that I'll return with, since I cannot find it using google.

Would be cool to get a dev kit for it though. Seems like SONY may be guarding their Kernal architecture more closely now to avoid a possible hack? I understand the argument from both sides, but leaning towards the safe-side -- I too would cancel it for online access.

They could always flash it back in if they patch it up. I found it to be more of a hassle. Had I been able to run Apache more fluently, than I may be singing a different tune. I hope that dude proves that he can hack the PS3 and keep Linux running...just to piss off SONY.
