Sound problem

hi guys iv just built a new system but im having trouble with the sound so need your expert advice . when i play say itunes or media player all im getting are the front speakers but i have a 5.1 system the board suppports 7.1. when i go into controll panel and test it all the speakers respond and can be heard but then when i try to listen to music its only the fron 2 that are working.

its the onboard sound and im running vista ultimate 64 bit

WEll most free Apps only support 2 channel and you need to pay and upgrade to get full playability. Media player should work though.

Make sure in bios HIDEF audio is enabled.

it worked on the last system with itunes. media player is the same just the front speakers . bios is enabled. it cant be the speakers as they play when i run the test ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Might try going to the windows settings and make sure its the same as the on board sound settings the realtek settings.
