I ran into this problem when I installed SP2 on XpPro
1) Downloaded the full SP2
2) Made a copy of the SP1 partition with PM8.01
3) Booted the copy and installed SP2
At this point I have two partition, let's call then
SP1 and SP2.
When I rebooted (SP1 still the active partition) I had two
entries in the multi-boot menu. I could boot SP1 but if I tried
to boot SP2 I got the splash screen and then the screen went
blank (OK, so far) but then system rebooted. I started over
and the same thing happened. Safe mode, last good config, etc.
all do the same thing. Occasionally (10%), SP2 will boot.
I thought it might be some a hardware problem that only affects
SP2 so I reseated cards, swapped cards, memory, removed cards/memory, etc.
Same thing, occasionally SP2 will boot.
So I lived with it for awhile but I needed to make some HW changes.
At this point I made SP2 the active partition. And now I can boot the
SP2 partition 100% of the time BUT NOT THE SP1 partition!
In other words, each partition can boot itself but not the other.
Anyone have any ideas????
