Now it's a year ago? I'd like to see a link to an official Nvidia release saying Fermi was due in March 2009.

Also, history shows us it will take a long while for ATI's prices to be impacted much. Not unless Nvidia wants to go down the same road of fiscal hell ATI has been through in the past and sell their next gen cards for nearly no profit.. I don't see that happening.

Nvidia's multi display solution in their Geforce 400 series will definitely not "trounce" Eyefinity. There are three digital outputs, two DVI and what appears to be a mini HDMI; while ATI's 5000 series (high and mid-range) cards have support for four digital outputs. We'll probably have to wait until March 26th to see if the three outputs on the GTX 480/470 can be populated at the same time.

This is just another example of the diverging features coming to market from these two companies.
 
The more or less reality is that GTX470 is less powerful than a HD5870, the first will cost more, consume more.

GTX480 will be just 5-10% faster than HD5870, it will cost way more, near HD5970 price if not even more. Eats a lot of watts(275w), near HD5970 consumption (290w).

HD5970 is like 60-70% faster than HD5870.


HD58** released six months ago.


That's your broken and unfixable fermi. And lets not forget that real deal is the HD5850 with it great OC'ng skills and two paired in CF.

Hope Ati lowers prices, that's the only thing that matters, Fermi will be a fiasco, mark my words.

gf100 is large, but it's no where near 4cm X 4cm (don't know if you meant that as an extreme over exaggeration). That would result in a die area around 1600mm², completely unheard of. Even gt200 was 2.4cm X 2.4cm (576mm²), and it's pretty clear from the images we've seen so far that gf100 is definitely not any larger then gt200. In fact from the latest leaked images, gf100 seems to be closer in size to g80 then anything else, probably closer to 2.2cm X 2.2cm.

And Fermi wasn't set to be released a year ago, it was originally set for release in the fourth quarter of 2009, but was delayed a quarter to the first quarter of 2010. hmmm... questionable information you've got there.
 
They dident do a very good job at censoring the card. You can still tell it uses an 8 and 6 power pin as well as the shadow of the PCIE slot is clearly visible.
 
@NVidia fanboys: Size is no guarantee of power. Wait for the benches.

I would like to point out history. During the GeForce 5/6/7 days, ATi used to dominate. Then NV came along with the 8' and 9's. Make no mistake, the ATI HD 2000's and 3000's were nowhere near as fast. Then along came the 4870-80% as fast as a GTX280 at half the price. In all probability, ATI is going to kick NV for the next year or two, after which NV will kick ati, and then ATi will kick....you get my drift.
 
I would be highly surprised if the GTX480 doesn't perform atleast 25% faster then the HD5870. What matters most is transistors, and with 50% more transistors in the GTX480 it should perform nearly 50% faster. If it performs less then 25% above the HD5870, it would be a poor use of so many transistors.

Agree also waiting for the release so we can have a 5870 2.0 version or a price reduction, coz we all know its gonna happen :) comes patience comes great booty.....

I'm interested in seeing this GPU's performance, I personally have a preference towards nvidia over ati... They need something to compete with the 58**'s..
 
I agree with all that could give a crap about the pic. Where the HELL are the benches? With the site name Tweakers.net they sure as hell don't live up to there name. They should change it to "We Take Pictures" and we are good at it.
