Question SSD performing at half speeds

I recently bought a Samsung 980 pro nvme, for some reason it is locked at 3500 MB/s read and write speeds when it should be around the 7000 mark.
I also have a samsung 970 pro ssd, that wouldnt fit into my mother board so I purchased a UGREEN NVMe PCIe Adapter, M.2 SSD to PCIe 4.0 X16/X8/X4 Card with Heat Sink, Im not sure if this is effecting the performance of my new 980 ssd.
My windows is installed on my 970 ssd.
The 980 pro ssd is in the slot that goes directly into my motherboard though.
I have a z360 a pro motherboard.

Your motherboard has pcie 3 m2 slots not pcie 4, that's why you're getting half the speed. Doesn't really matter though if just playing games, your random access times is about the same compared to gen 4.
