I have a Toshiba satellite pro notebook which has an intel(r) 7 series/c216 chipset family sata ahci controller. Can anyone confirm whether this controller is sata 2 or sata 3. Judging by the speed in which it boots would indicate sata 3, with a Sata3 SSD installed it takes 20 seconds to boot, but it came with a sata 2 HDD installed creating the confusion

Solution
SATA 2 or SATA 3 is insignificant compared to the performance improvement an SSD brings to a standard 5400 RPM laptop disk. Even if you "only" get 250MB/s off an SSD that is still 5X what a typical laptop disk does. And the seek latency of 5400 RPM is orders of magnitude worse.

Thanks but not enough convincing evidence of much there. That's the second time gone over that one.
