start menu shared amongst all users

I am running Windows XP Professional with 5 users.

Unfortunately, all the users seem to be sharing one start menu.
Any changes made to any of the start menus seem to affect all
the others. I think at one point I may have copied the
one of the users start menus into the default start menu
or the "all users" start menu. Not sure if this is part of
the problem.

Does anyone know how can I fix this? Please help.

The start menu that each user sees is made up of the "all users" start menu
and there own.
Make changes to the users start menu, not the "all users" start menu.

Do the edits directly in explorer, not by dragging and dropping on the start
menu, as this will most likely change the "all users" one.

Mark:

I AM doing the edits in/from the start menu. From the
start menu, when I go to make a change, I get the
message:"Modifying this folder will affect all
users who log on to this computer. Do you want
to continue?"

I am NOT editing the files in the explorer.

Any other thoughts?

Try it in Explorer as Mark suggested.
