My specs
z97k
i7-4790k
rtx 2070
16gb ram
corsair tx850w

Before, the only SSD I had on this computer was for the boot drive, I played all the games on HDD. I have 2 HDDs on this, one for installed files another for storage. I decided to buy an SSD to improve loading times and such and to play some of the recently released games, specifically starfield and armored core because both stutter on this computer. I installed the new SSD, Crucial 2tb. What I did was I changed the drive letter of my old HDD to something different and named it something else, formatted the new SSD to have the same letter and name as my old installed files drive and just transferred everything from my old installed files HDD to the new SSD.

It seemed to have worked. I opened steam and for some reason it had problems detecting the games, I thought no problem, I'll just install them again and let steam discover the files since I still have the game files, done ezpz. But when I ran them, they kept crashing upon starting. It crashes to desktop, sometimes steam even crashes and closes. They sometimes crash immediately, sometimes they reach the main menu and then crashes. bg3 crashes when the main menu finishes loading or immediately when I press play on the launcher, starfield crashes when the shaders starts to load in the menu, armored core doesn't start and is stuck in the easy anticheat and just CTD. Monster Hunter World also CTDs after getting to the main menu. original sin 2 is the same with bg3, sometimes it crashes immediately after starting from the launcher, sometimes it crashes after getting to the main menu. I can play Neon white though, for some reason, I only tried it once.

I tried uninstalling bg3 and reinstalled it, same thing. I reinstalled steam without deleting the game files, same thing. I also tried adding my old HDD as another storage for steam and moved bg3 there, it also crashed! Currently I uninstalled everything and just reinstalled steam and am currently downloading bg3 again. So will update if it will run or not tomorrow.

I also tried running a pirated skyrim that was already installed and was transferred the same way and it ran, I was able to load a savefile. Same for a pirated bugsnax. I would have tried path of exile and diablo 4 but they weren't updated yet.

Any help on what I broke and how to fix it please.

How did you do this "transfer"?

What are ALL the drives in this system, an what port are they connected to?
Just copy paste. Now, two SSDs and two HDDs, before 1 SSD and 2 HDD. 1 SSD for boot drive, 1 SSD and 1 HDD for installed files, and 1 HDD for storage. What do you mean by what port are they connected to? They are connected to the mobo via sata? Is this what you mean?

OK...all SATA drives, no problem.

Just copy/paste?

Major problem.

You can't move games or applications around like that.

I thought it would be fine since I renamed the new SSD to have the same drive letter and name as the old one. I have uninstalled steam and all the games now, I'm currently redownloading bg3 to try it again. Will have to update this post after it has finished if it's working or not. But I'm still wondering why my pirated skyrim, and bugsnax game is still working fine though.
