just a little update for those of you who maybe thinking of trying steam linux, out of 38 games i have on steam using windows under linux mint mate 32bit lets me play 4 games being counter strike, counter strike source, half-life and red orchestra : ostfront 41-45 ( im downloading css atm) last time under unbuntu 12.10 64bit i had just red orchestra : ostfront 41-45 if remember correctly, this time under mint not under unbuntu everthing was or (dont rip my head off ) more simple than last time i played with it under unbuntu, although maybe that has become better? dont know so cant say. its great little system, but can you see my problem with the amount of games i have access to, bit of a big trade off at the moment if your a gammer, but i have dual booted the system so will keep it for testing
also i have a fair bit of gamming hardware that i must add was not cheap, like the isku keyboard, nostromo gamming key pad and the kone xtd ,mouse oh yea and xbox for windows controller how easy is it going to be to get the drivers for these not so cheap items ?
these are fair points i make (i hope lol) as i was told that linux is indeed as simple to use as any windows o/s, thus far i have to agree.
so with all that money tied up in games and hardware and im sure im not the only person with this type of setup, there are some issues for some one to come from windows to linux or dont you agree ?
oh dea im sorry to have to report and i know you will want to hang me for it but how come the performance is err feckn terrible ? frame rates are not even playable at same settings but lower rezz it wont even go upto 1080p? not no setting that high for it in game? , under windows 1080p with that old game i get stupid high fps lol and why did it take soooooo long to load the game ? sloooow lol never seen my pc so slow befor infact it felt my gamming pc had been downgraded to an onboard gfx p4 2ghz lol ...
sorry but this is still pritty much what i remember last time i tested it few months back just more of the same and thats less when it comes to games so linux still not cutting it for gamming in my eyes... very long way to go for steam games thats all i can say. and thats the truth , mint for anything else though as good as any windows os as far as i can make out ...although not tested longer enfuff to pass full judgement .
oh yea sorry again but how do i get my 3d working under linux (windows 8 i use tridef driver i had to pay for that too) also i have no hdmi sound ? thought this was ment to be easy as windows? oh did i say i cant get my TV card to work ? .. under windows 8 i have to do nothing apart from install media center and tune it in but im sure its going to be just as simple under linux err is it?
hmm i guess one thing everyone seems to know someone in the real world who can fix there windows pc but funny i dont know anyone who i could take my linux pc to help me in the real world, as i dont want to start typen commands in if that what it takes. get my drift ? now
oh my system spec is crappy old amd 1090t (or so im told they crap so maybe a spanky intel is needed) 16gb ddr3 1333, crappy old ocz aglitiy 3 120gb ssd ,1.5tb hdd,500gb hdd , hd6850, maybe my system spec is way to weak anyones guess if i ask on here. but funnyest thing of all it seems to fly under windows 8 ? now anit that mighty strange? will i bother to waste my time installing the other 3 games linux steam will let me play ? ...what do you think?
they are the facts so you can install it then findout who is telling the real facts n guess what you hate me for being right ?
MICROSOFT will be laffing at steam if people think the windows gammer is going to flock in there thousands to use Linux for gaming cos I know am laffing, but nice try steam.
will I think people are idiots for moving from windows to steam Linux for there gaming fix ? no not at all, because they WILL be back on a windows gamming rig quicker than you can say format !
just like to add some posters on here seem to try and down play what I post, with comments that has nothing to do with the steam Linux subject post.. trying to make out I talk to myself etc. when I been quoted the most so I let you work it all out to why I have had to post so many replys try reading from post one on the subject then make ya mind up, it got side tracked so I try and prove my point by installing and testing Linux then staem for Linux .. of cause i'll keep posting if you try and play down the real issues by not answering them instead try'n your hardest to belittle my comments. but ya just made ya selfs look silly, me I posted my findings with steam and Linux what was your input on the subject?
also people saying commands the average user will never need to type a command WRONG i have no hdmi sound and no tv card now look what the average user on linux has to do to install it if you can understand it that is.. easier than windows to use you make ya mind up after reading this
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=21980&f=49 .. to get it to work under windows its just a double click .
me im booting back to windows because i have to many hardware software issues under linux and thats just my normal setup for watching tv ect, for gaming linux is no use to me or any windows gammer atm, will i keep linux mint on my 500gb drive ? probs not if i dont have a use for it although it was fun to take a look.
