There seem to be something many here don't know or understand. The iPad is incapable of running Flash well. You might lament the lack of Flash, but Apples gadgets are the art of the possible. All the pieces of the puzzle have to come together, use, performance, weight, price, battery, and market. I think many maybe think of, or look at the iPad as something it isn't.
The iPad is not tablet computer alternative to a laptop. It's just kinda a faster touch or iPhone with bigger display. That's all. But the bigger display will profoundly change the game though. It's a convenient and practical everyday utility for common people. To actually be that, it needs its 10 hour battery time and immense standby. And it needs to be light and handy. The iPad cannot run Flash with an acceptable experience. That's the truth of the matter. It will run movies, but not Flash, that's how bad flash is. To make the iPad into a gadget that could, would defeat more important attributes.
If you want a do-anything powerful tablet PC, look elsewhere, wait for a long time, pay lots of money, struggle with lack of applications, reliability and compatibility, and experience the system and maker fade away into indifference, in just a few years. Join the Amiga, Be, Psion5 etc. -owners and whine about it for the rest of your life.
Me, I'm getting the iPad, simply because, just like the iPhone and iPod, I expect it's going to be a very useful, polished and delightful experience. I don't expect it to multitask or play Flash, and I don't care.
