Stream Processors vs. Effective Memory Clock

Hello,

I compared several graphic cards on one site and noticed there's a big gap in these two categories: Stream Processors and Effective Memory Clock.

Where one was high the other was low and vice versa.

e.g.

GB GV-N550OC-1GI got only 192 Stream Processors but 4200mhz Effective Memory Clock while GB GV-R685OC-1GD is 960 Stream Processors but only 1050MHz Effective Memory Clock.

I hardly saw other major differences...

Who does each of the above do and how does it influence the performances of the card?

its the same memory speed for both cards. its a confusing naming scheme for memory. the actual frequency is 1050MHz but ddr5 has 4 times the data lanes as the first ddr standard so its effectively 4200MHz.
sometimes they use the actual frequency sometimes they use the effective frequency.

ok nvidia and Amd have different configurations for their processor setups.
The Alus devided by the SIMD lanes will give you the core count on a Nvidia gpu which is basically ends up to a 32 core chip.
Amd doubled up o theirs so basically theirs will have 4 times the count as nvidias. But its roughly the same amount of cores. Remember those shaders are linked with lanes. So basically 16 of them equals 1 core.
Do not worry about those specs. Its bull they will never show you the real specs like the drawing rate and the amount of pixel per triangles those cards can draw up. So those specs are pretty useless. Shader count as well. Because the customers have no idea how they got to that total.

Between those two cards the 550 trades more blows with the 6850. If it was me ill look for the 6870. Its a few bucks more for a lot more performance.

I can figure out stuff but am not THAT techy. Was looking more for a Tarazan-Jane dialogue type. "More SP good. Less EMC bad" type of advice

But...since you say these aren't important anyhow...will drop it.

Yet if we're going down that road of "take this and not that" kind of q/a allow me to add three more options I was looking into and I'll be happy to get the bottom line.
