Hey again! It's been a while since I've visited the community, but I felt I had nowhere else to turn in this time of desperation. The thing is, this really bums me out since my PC costs $3,000 and parts are expensive.

So, in all games that I play, whenever I first spawn or walk into an new area or just drive really fast through Los Santos or even fly around in Minecraft, I've noticed a consistent stutter. I drop a few frames and sometimes even get second-long freezes mid-game, not to mention the ridiculous texture pop-in.

My first thought was: "Well, it's OBVIOUSLY the HDD!" So I defragged, did a clean install, and even got a new SSD, but to no avail. Next, I assumed it could be the GPU memory, but I had no way to confirm this. Then, I just thought it could be the RAM.

I have some evidence supporting the bad RAM argument. When I play Minecraft and fly around fast, I'll get small freezes throughout as mew land renders. What struck me was that the more RAM I allocated to Minecraft, the farther apart and LONGER the freezes would be.
EXAMPLE: When I allocate 128MB, the freezes are only a fraction of a second long and happen multiple times per second.
When I allocate 24GB, the freezes are upwards of 1 second long but they only happen every minute or so.

My worst fear is that it's the CPU, but it can't be, can it?

Anyway, I haven't yet tried removing sticks of RAM to see if the problem persists, but I will do so soon. Since I've been looking to upgrade my GPU, I'm hoping it's just bad GPU memory. I'll list off the problems for you guys and hope that maybe some of you can pinpoint the issue.

*Stuttering when moving fast through a large area or entering a new area with new textures.
*Texture & object pop-in when entering a new area with new textures.
*Small freezes when loading new areas of a place like Los Santos or any Minecraft world.
*Low frame rates when looking at a large detailed area or sometimes for no apparent reason.
*The more RAM I allocate to Minecraft, the longer the freezes are. They happen less often, too.
*On a side note, the GPU fan never really roars like it used to. Maybe GPU mem overheated?

Thanks a lot - SERIOUSLY, a world of thanks to anyone who can help me pinpoint the source of the issue!

GPU: AMD Radeon R9 290X 4GB
CPU: Intel Core i7 4930k @3.6 GHz. (Custom cooling kit)
RAM: 32GB ADATA XPG 2.0 @1866 MHz

PSU: Azza Titan 1,000 Watt Power Supply

Well, if you went to Windows 10, I cannot help you. I have not installed it. For a lot of reasons. But the main one is that I do not feel that Windows 10 is ready for prime time, and probably won't be for months to come. And I cannot afford to install a still buggy OS over the top of my very stable Windows 8.1.

I will bow out and let someone else jump in and help you.

Good Luck!

do you monitor temps?

thermal throttling of the cpu/gpu can cause this, hdd failure, ram failure, power supply failure, windows settings like pagefile(let windows choose) or power savings features.

install msi afterburner and enable cpu/gpu temp monitoring in the OSD.

play a game and post back with max temps

run memtest, run the manufacturer's health tool for the hdd. Turn off all power savings features of windows.

Good start, then we can proceed after this.

azza makes me uneasy, do you have another psu to test with?

I do monitor temps, actually. Nothing abnormal at all. GPU sticks around 85 under stress and CPU rarely exceeds 75. Both far below thresholds.
