Hey all been fighting the wife for a new build for years, she finally relented but kind of hamstrung me in the process. She came across a "going out of business sale" and bought the ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe so id like some advice or suggestions on the rest of the components I chose for this AMD o/c build. It will be used for gaming primarily: WoW, CoD4, Oblivion, Warhammer (if it ever comes out) and Crysis which is a boxed paper weight as this machine wont/cant run it. I am on a strict budget of 850 usd (not counting the MIR's, shes on to every trick). Will load Windows Vista just not sure which 32 or 64, Im looking at this rig for an intermediate answer till I can save more money for a real gamer.

ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - Already bought

Antec Sonata III w/ Earthwatts 500W Power Supply - 119 usd

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Black Edition Processor - 99 usd

EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Video Card - 239 usd

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s - 69 usd for O/S

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s - 119 usd

2GB CORSAIR XMS2 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel 4-4-4-12 T2 - 92 usd before 40$ mir

SAMSUNG 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe SATA - 27 usd

ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler - 20 usd (The AMD 5000+ BE doesnt come with a hsf)

Well thats it, already used 809 dollars of my 850 budget. Oh im not planning on going SLI but if my son wants later after the new Geforce cards come out (and the old ones drop in price) we might, I know id have to upgrade the psu then but thats a few months and saved andys away:)

Thankyou in advance for your help and opinions.

Your wife did make the right budget decision. Look under Best Bang for the Buck : Dual-Core Processors:

http://www.yougamers.com/hardware/stats/3dmark06/priceandperformance/

They're stock cpus. If you overclock, get the 5000+ black since you're getting a cooler anyway.

The PSU is underrated. It can do GTS 512.

Ty for the feedback thus far, ive never set up a raid array however maybe now is the time to try it. Am I better off with a small drive and a large drive or with raid 0, with 2 smaller drives.

Have talked my wife into letting me have the 40$ mir and get another smaller hdd for the operating system.

so was thinking of adding: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s for O/S ... thoughts?

Fanboi - thanks for that article had read it in late Nov. but now it actually applies.
