Hello, I am building a server with the Supermicro Barebone 1029GQ-TRT and I am encountering an issue where the system is not POSTing and I cannot get any display output. The server is brand new, and I have followed the troubleshooting steps, but I am still stuck. Here are the full details:

System Specifications:

  • Motherboard: Supermicro Barebone 1029GQ-TRT
  • CPUs: 2x Intel Xeon Platinum 8259CL (24 cores, 2.50GHz)
  • RAM: 32GB 2Rx4 PC4 - 2933Y - RB2 - 12 (RDIMM, 2933MHz) from SKhynix
  • GPUs: 2x NVIDIA RTX A5000
  • Storage: Samsung 870 EVO 1000GB (OS) + Samsung PM893 1920GB (Data)
  • Power Supply: 2000W redundant provided by the Barebone

Symptoms:

  • No POST: The system powers on, but there is no display output (no POST screen, no BIOS screen).
  • Fans Behavior: Fans spin at full speed initially, then stop/slows down (sometimes).
  • IPMI: I can log into the IPMI interface, but the Hardware Information tab displays different values (Probably from the tests before shipping), and I cannot get any POST codes.
  • No Beep Codes: I have removed components (CPUs, RAM, and GPUs) one at a time, but I am not hearing any beep codes.

What I Have Tried:

  • Removed and reseated CPUs (tested both CPUs in different sockets).
  • Removed and reseated RAM (tested with just one stick of RAM in various slots).
  • Tested the server without RAM and CPU (no display, different behavior, powers down after a few seconds, but no beep codes either).
  • Tested the server with only 1 RAM and 1 CPU (no GPU/SSD etc.), same behaviour
  • Checked the IPMI login (I was able to log in using the default password).
  • Reset CMOS using the jumper (no effect).
  • Rechecked CPU socket and RAM seating for proper contact (both look correct, no visible damage).
  • Verified power connections: They are in the board and no external plugs necessary.

Questions:

  1. Is it normal that no beep codes are heard, even when RAM and CPU are missing?
  2. Are there any other steps I should try to diagnose this issue further?
  3. Is there any chance the BIOS version might be causing this (should/can I try updating, even without a working POST)?
  4. Could a faulty CPU or RAM cause the system to fail to POST with no beep codes or display?
  5. Could it be that the CPU is incompatible?, from my understanding it is v3 but should be backwards compatible.

I would greatly appreciate any help or advice from anyone who has encountered a similar issue or has suggestions on what to check next. Thanks in advance!

Note BIOS version 3.2 or above is required to support 2nd Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors (codenamed Cascade Lake-R).
