I'm planning on adding twin (you heard me, TWIN) blowholes to the top of my SX-1040B. i am looking for fans bigger and badder-ass than your garden variety 120mm's.
i plan on making (or buying?) a baybus to turn them on/off, along with a pair of 120's on the door for intake.

Also, i need a REALLY GOOD HSF for an athlon XP, height isn't an issue as the 1040 has plenty of vert. space above the mobo.

There are some big fans out there but how much air do you want to move?

Thy <A HREF="http://1coolpc.com/case120ho.htm" target="_new">this fan</A> for $16. It moves air at 131CFM at 45db which isn't bad. However if you use three of them you might need to wear earplugs or hook up a hose and vacuum your house. This thing can easily hover above the ground and I am not kidding about that. This must be what svol uses.(See sig of the week.)

As for a HSF, you can go with the <A HREF="http://www.micforg.co.jp/c_pal8045e.html" target="_new">Alpha 8045</A> in the <A HREF="http://www.micforg.co.jp/c_pal8045e_other_fan.html" target="_new">Delta fan configuration</A> or the <A HREF="http://www.swiftnets.com/mcx462.htm" target="_new">Swiftech MCX462</A> with the <A HREF="http://www.deltaww.com/products/dcfans/pdf/FFB808038.pdf" target="_new">Delta configuration</A> also.

The other thing you can do, since you are a air cooling fanatic, is <A HREF="http://www.2cooltek.com/retro.html" target="_new">retro-fit</A> a 80mm fan onto either on of the heatsinks listed above. This will give you better airflow and less noise.

I hope that this has helped.

methinks 2 of these and a trio of the 120's on the side of the case and a 92mm on the side (even out the CFM's) and

"Do you know what those things can do to you?
They can suck the paint off your house and ive your family a permenant orange afro."
-Austin Milbarge in "Spies Like Us"-
Man, that is one big fan. I wonder if they will fit within the case dimentions? If they do, he will have to keep small children and household pets away from its intakes. Put it on the deck of a carrier and it would be ready take off. Maybe he could put caution tape on the ground to warn people passing by.

I wonder what the <A HREF="http://www.users.dircon.co.uk/~nmb/fans/engineer/data/airflow.htm" target="_new">static air pressure</A> is produced by that fan? The one I posted will hover above the ground and this one might be used by NASA to put people into low orbits.

As Fatburger says, "Don't step in the sarcasm!"

they sell 110Volts 120mm fans here, it can blow your chip right out of the socket, or suck loose fur off your cat when it pass by the case. no clue about the cfm or db, it's loud/fast/powerful.

I found a very good way of cooling things, i'll post some links to images as soon do some pics.

To assimilate, or not to assimilate?
Question is irrelevant.

That fan will kill the PSU!!!

<A HREF="http://www.caseetc.com/cgi-bin/caseetc/F-400.html" target="_new">"This is a Comair Rotron Fan that is 172mm in size. This fan comes tailed with a four pin connector. This is an The fan is 172mm x 150mm x 51mm and puts out about 230 CFM at 55 dB-A. It is a ball bearing fan with feathered edges to increase quietness. It operates at 25 Watts and runs at 2.26 Amps. The RPM is about 3500. Note: This fan does NOT come with a finger guard. The blades are metal, and will most definitely detach any body part placed within the fan housing. We will not take responsiblity for any bodily injury that occurs when using this fan.</A>

"Bodily Injury???" Ouch!

Seriously though;

That fan is not an option. You want four fans for this case, right? Fan for fan, you get 100CFM and 10db more, but are also consuming 3.42x's as many Amps and 3.16x's as many Watts. For one of those fans you could use three, 3, of the <A HREF="http://1coolpc.com/case120ho.htm" target="_new">others</A>. If you used four of the 172mm fans you would need another PSU. Together they would drain 100W! That is an "Ouch!" worse than getting ones fingers caught in the metal blades. You are better off with the first suggestion. (No Offense...)

I also wonder if that kind of fan would also give off a lot of EMI? (Electo-Magnetic Interferance)

"methinks 2 of these and a trio of the 120's on the side of the case and a 92mm on the side (even out the CFM's)"

50W + 23.76W + 4W = ANOTHER PSU!

You might be better off taking off the sides of your case and buying two box fans. One to conduct the air and one to expulse the air. It would have three benefits, 1. it would have variable speeds, 2. it would give off the same amount of noise (On the highest speed), 3. it would probably move more air (CFM). I would even guess that it might consume less power.
