2x2Gb on a $1000 system? Epic Fail anyone?
2x4GB Ripjaw's for $79:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231308, still inside the budget.
And the massive value of the 6950 2GB makes one wonder if it is possible to squeeze CF's 6950 on a $1000 budget.
lets take the $500 PC:
AMD Phenom II X4 925 $125
AMD boxed heatsink/fan $0
Pick a 8/8x CF MOBO with USB3:
ASRock 870 EXTREME3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 $90
G.Skill 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) DDR3-1333 Model F3-10666CL9D-4GBNS $40
And borrow the PSU from the $2000 PC:
Seasonic SS-850HT: 850W, ATX12V v2.31, 80-Plus Silver $130
2x GIGABYTE GV-R695D5-2GD-B Radeon HD 6950 2GB $530 ($490 after MIR)
WD Caviar Green WD7500AARS 750GB IntelliPower 64MB cache $55
Asus DRW-24B1ST 24x DVD Burner $18.99
Total $988, $948 after MIR. Add another $40-$65 for your choice of case.
One might point that it is possible to use a $30 case and a $40 HDD and keep the total price below $1000, but while there are a few good single plate HDDs below $50,at $40 the choices are slim, to say the least, and a $30 case WILL have problems with dual 6950s.
There is no point picking a $60 MOBO for CF in 16x/4x mode, or using 1GB 6950 for CF.
So i concede that it is NOT possible to squeeze CF 6950 2GB in a $1000 budget and build a balanced gaming PC with today prices, but we are almost there, given or taken a few bucks , MIRs and combos.
Maybe Newegg could offer a combo inside the $1000 budget with 2GB 6950CF.
And i suggest that SBM's HDDs are single plate desings, given the greater reliability( less plates equals less chance of failure, less heat and noise) and the fact that the smaller capacity makes drive backup and mirroing easier.
