When I had the original XP installed on my system, System Restore worked
fine. After I installed SP1 and later SP2, System Restore started having
strange problems.
First, The Network Connection Manager failed. When I did a fresh install of
XP, the Network Connection Mnager was back again. But when I re-installed
all applications, the Network Connection Manager had failed again. Then when
I did a System Restore to the start point and all newly installed
applications were lost.
Newly received or created files could be saved on a CD, even though it would
be too cumbersome but what can one do for newly installed programs and theri
upgrades? Are they generally lost in System Restore?
The loss of Network Connection Mnager is a recognized problem and there are
articles in the MS Knowledge Base, some suggesting trial and error methods
to solve the problem. None of them has worked for me, so far. I keep trying.
