As long as you *dont* have a check mark in the box 'turn off system
restore'
start/help and support/undo changes to your computer using system
restore/system restore settings, you should be OK to just leave it to
its own devices, the system will set a restore point at any significant
change to your system, ie the installation or removal of programmes,
drivers, etc. If you want to manually set a restore point, the only
time you should need to, is before making such a change to your system,
and or if you choose for whatever reason to set system restore to off,
this only needs to be done when loading certain patches etc.

"System Restore creates a restore point every 24 hours if the computer is turned on, or if it has been 24 hours since the last restore point was created"

Task Scheduler service needs to set to Automatic and running.
