Hello,

I recently replaced the screen of an Acer Aspire v5-571p. It booted up and everything worked fine the first time, then it updated and now I am stuck in a BSOD loop.

Here are all of the things i've tried but failed:

scf scannow (says no problems found)
Safe mode (still boots into BSOD)
System restore (restore failture)
f8 legacy mode (Can't get into safe mode with any method)

It is important that I keep the installed programs and documents on the computer.

What are the chances that this is purely a hardware issue. Would I be able to retain programs and documents if it is a software issue?

Thanks!

Solution
ETD.sys is the touchpad driver, as it crashes after updating it's most likely a software bug.

Download an ISO from https://www.tenforums.com/software-apps/27180-windows-10-recovery-tools-bootable-rescue-disk-post434481.html#post434481, mount it on a USB and boot from the USB. Open device manager and disable the touchpad.

Solution
I had this problem too and i couldnt boot , couldn't restore, couldn't boot into safe mode

Here's what worked for me:

1) Let your computer boot into blue screen until you get to troubleshoot menu

2) Select Command prompt from advanced options

3) ETD.sys is located at C:\Windows\System32\Drivers
Rename it to something like ETD.sys.old OR outright delete it. Then exit cmd

4) Boot into Safe mode + Network OR boot into windows normally

Your keyboard and mousepad will NOT work.

5) To fix this, go on your laptop manufacturer's driver page and see if you can find ELANTECH driver or download ELANTECH driver from somewhere else.
This will add a new ETD.sys file to your system which you can boot your computer with without getting BSOD
