Hope someone can help with this one. AMD 1000 2 x128 mb ram 40gb hdd WinXP.
This system came to me with start up problems
if left switched off for a few hrs. it takes 4 or 5 power ons before it will boot up completely (only gets to xp progress bar then freezes).
Once booted properly and then switched off
it will restart ok,slow and the old odd intermittent problems.
I found boot files missing and some corrupt as well as some system files missing .Fiddled around for while
checked ram hdd spyware malware and viruses etc.
F**. it . I fdisked and formatted including mbr.
Reinstalled XP and problems seemed to disappear.
Except! Except as above that if left switched off for a few hrs. it takes 4 or 5 power ons before it will boot up completely (only gets to xp progress bar then freezes). Once booted properly and then switched off
it will restart ok.
Please Help and Thanks in advance

its pretty obvious that if you leave it off for an extended period of time the power supply is at fault. its highly unlikely that the comp components dont work right until they are "warmed up" thats only true of power supplys.
