Question Task manager going crazy

Hey, I noticed a weird problem with my task manager. When I move files from my hard drive to a portable disk, my CPU jumps to 100%. That wouldn't be so weird, but the processes that are mostly using the CPU are. A while after I start moving the files, processes such as Firefox, Photos, etc. (whatever it is, it has nothing to do with moving files) start rocketing all the way up to the top of my CPU usage, going all the way up to 80% and then switching the first position with some other process. And it doesn't stop after finishing the moving process and even unpugging the disk. Does anyone know what's causing this?

I've seen Firefox and Chrome do this if they have several tabs open and they've been active for a good while, probably 4 or more hours, but especially if I let them run overnight. When it happens, I just stop them and restart them.

It’s not only Firefox and Chrome, it’s basically any process that’s running and they are switching fast.
