I've gotten a ways into the game now and like some others have mentioned, I
sure miss my rope and vine arrows.

I'm in the clocktower misson and need to pick up a bit more loot. I'm
working my way back up and at the central area with the tall shaft,
counterweights, & platforms. I've found an area I can climb the central
shaft quite high and puts me at the end of a walkway, but I haven't figured
out how to turn or re-grab, or otherwise get lined up to jump to what should
be as easy to get to point.

Any add'l tips for using the climbing gloves? Is there a better method for
knowing where the'll work other than try and see? Some of the towers for
example can be climbed, but only if jumped on from above their bases, at
least as far as I've discovered so far.

Thanks,

M.

Generally speaking the gloves work only on stone and not brick or rendered
walls, so look for walls with bigger blocks and not small ones. Mostly you
can't climb over an kind of protruding ledge on walls, so those decorative
arches etc. will block your way - except for one part near the pump house in
Auledale(?. a few weeks since I played). Behind the fence you can see a
grate on the other side of the canal. It is possible to climb the wall, go
through the wall furniture and over the fence to the other side of the
canal. (don't jump in the water you will drown if you didn't know that
already).

There are a few place where an invisible barrier exists and you simply can't
climb any higher.

If you have enough room to fall sometimes you can jump near the wall then
use the forward key to push yourself into the wall and you will grab onto
it. I usually tried to look for a way to get above some protruding wall
feature and let go of the wall then fall onto the feature, turn around, jump
to next spot.

If you are where I think you are I went up high, where I could get onto a
walkway, then jumped down to the different levels, because like you say,
jumping and grabbing is difficult and unreliable in T:DS

Also the way looking is handled is quite different. If you look at your feet
you will notice they don't move with your head. Your view is linked to your
head and not your body unlike most other games. You need to turn your head
about 50 degrees to the left or right before your body follows. The upshot
of this is sometimes your feet are facing a different direction to your head
so when you begin walking on a narrow ledge/beam you will sort of sidestep
till your feet turn to follow your body, and this can cause you to fall of
the beam, etc. I countered this by turning my head till my feet were
parallel to the platform I was about to walk on.
